ANipping in again before I'm back to work! Am going to downsize flowers and do 2 little arrangements, one in the middle and one on the board. Now the cake is all done with the bunting around it, too many flowers is just going to drown it, so executive decision taken! Will post pics when it's all done!

PS I'm not a all jealous of the cake room. Much. At all. Honest......... ;) *heads off to kitchen covered in cake stuff*

Hi everyone you've all been chatty today.

Nanny lovely kitchen.

Mel can't wait to see your cake.

Chasingmytail I also would like to know hoe to do silver and gold leaf. There is a pick and stick tool on amazon that is for picking up dragees if it's any help.

Wow, fantastic kitchens - now I cant send a picture in of mine its awful - nothing to do with my taste it was a Russian lady who was married to my dear departed father-in-law - long story but we had 2 double spreads in The Saturday Mail!!! This is a modern farmhouse kitchen so could have anything alive or dead in there, tractor parts, builders plans, kids homework. Luckily its all safe on the worktop!  As it is, it is not a decorating kitchen it lacks space and freedom to leave things unattended. In the past I have left cakes out and my youngest has eat it! I also have another farmhouse that is under renovation and have had a pantry designed with shelves and a stone sink. Its all a money pit and another stress for us.

Thanks Roxylee for that link may work need to check feedback on it first.

Nannycook - My FIL married a Russian, didnt workout just a money grabber, he went to divorse her, he suddenly died, we had to sell farm stock to pay for divorce settlement as she wanted loads, husband wanted to publisie this, press got hold of it Daily Mail came up, did short spread, a lady from Neath read it and realised this lady had just married her father the weekend before. It was a shock to them. So another 2 page spread in The Mail - over 3 yrs ago now. Always a drama here!

Chasing, 8O:o8O

Wow yes that is drama! Hope things were settled in your family's favour!

Lovely cake room Tiddy! On the left there is a mat with circles on it. I've seen that before- Is that 'the mat' for rolling fondant or is it a cutting board? I didn't see the photo you posted anywhere...?

I've got my photo on FB and twitter, have yet to put one up on my website. I was told it 'humanises' me and that people prefer to be able to see the person behind the business. It wasn't something I was keen to do- I'm rather wary and cautious when it comes to the internet! It makes me feel vulnerable but I don't know why.

Roxy, I put scrunched up newspaper in the plastic cups. Other than that, the cupcakes fit pretty snugly and so long as you're not going to toss it in the air or bounce it around the cupcakes stay put!

the red mad is just a silicone mat. I tend to use it for smaller things, but I do have "the mat" too. I dont use it very often but did use it for the camouflage cake I did and it worked really well :)

Morning !!

I have been asked to do a minecraft cake for this week !! I know I asked the other day about edible pens but does anyone use them ? I have heard they can dent the fondant alot which would stress me out !

How can you paint colour on without airbrush, do you just paint on the paste colours straight on or do you have to mix with alcohol or something ?

Chasing - families are just great aren't they !! I have seen a door mat in the Next catalogue that says 'friends welcome, familiy by appointment only' I'm thinking of buying it 8-O

AMorning all and a Bute day it is!

Jo I use the pens from time to time, on the pansies I made the other day I used them to put the black lines on, its best to have the icing first though.

Morning cakey friends!  Well if I didn't have full blown cake room envy before - I truly have it now!  Sadly this is one thing that Amazon or Ebay can't fix (so concentrating on Zoopla instead for that!).

Jean - interesting point about personalisation - I actually think there is something to be said for it.  It gives customers a sense of the real person.

Chasingmytail - where do you get silver/gold leaf from?  Do regular cake suppliers stock it?  I haven't used it either so interested to see what others say.

Jo - I always use vodka or bacardi (gin has a smell) to help paint colours.  I have a painter's pallet which I got from Wilkinsons and also use powder colours too and mix with the vodka.  I have a clean damp cloth to hand to wipe the brush a little to take off excess.  The alcohol helps the colour to dry quickly.  You can use rejuvenator - but I am still a vodka girl.

Just wondering if anybody had a solution to my shiny bottle query a bit further up the thread?  I have seen elsewhere on CC that people use corn syrup (is that Golden syrup btw?) and a spirit.

Nice kitchen Nanny
