Siany, really sorry about your cake. What a bummer! Cross fingers this time it bakes!

Chasingmytail, actually I was looking for a dense chocolate cake, but not as dense as a mud cake. Do you think your choc cake fits the bill? My choc cake recipe is pretty light

Oh exciting stuff Gray :)

I really don't know what happened. I didn't soak the fruit but there was a lot of liquid in the carrots so I think it's that.

I bet that was it too :-) great advice from k8... I don't think it takes much to ruin the chemistry of baking so that it'll never bake...

I'm so on the fence with full time baking.... It's such a hard choice! Especially since I had no orders Dec to Feb... 3 months with no money.... :-(

I so wanna make carrot cake now! :-)

Anybody any ideas what to do with stale scones? Made too many and they've dried out a bit too much... I hate throwing things out!

So ladies I tried the upside down method with a round cake and buttercream you are suppose to use a level to make sure its well you know level but I didn't have one so had to eye it.I am really pleased how it turned out for my first try and I found it really easy.It is by no means perfect but practice I will :D

I also tried the board on top method for a square cake and I've got to say for my first try and only my third ever square cake I am really chuffed.:D Once again it is not perfect but I will definitely be using this method from now on to do square cakes. Next time I will try covering them with fondant don't want to push my luck today, stop while the goings good isn't that what they say lol.

Thanks Chasingmytail I was actually looking on Lindy's website at that recipe last night funny that, my chocolate cake recipe is very soft so need a more dense on to.

Siany so sorry your carrot cake didn't work out I hate when that happens, I hope you have better luck with this one.

AI think it's stunning nanny. Really beautiful. Such a great design. You should be proud :)

I can't remember who did the upside down method but well done they look great. I think I'm going to try it on my next cake :)

I know what you mean Gray, it's really scary going into business, good luck with whatever you decide.

New cake is looking good. It's cooling at the moment and I shall cut it in a couple of hours to fill it. Fingers crossed it's all good :)

Thanks everyone. Can I just clarify I only used the upside down method on the round cake and used the board on top method on the square cake. I haven't tried the upside down method on a square cake yet.

Nanny gorgeous cake I love the design and the colours and it looks so clean and perfect well done:smile:

I used ordinary buttercream on the round cake and chocolate ganache on the square cake. This was my first time smoothing ganache it gives a nice finish, I will have to try white chocolate ganache do you have a recipe I could try please.

ASorry roxy I did read that, I was actually watching about the board on top method today. It looks interesting. How did you find it?

I found it really easy actually, the hardest part was getting the top board off without damaging the sides but just took it gentle and it was fine.

Leave it uncovered with plenty of air circulating especially underneath.  I usually pop mine in a cupboard or big drawer to keep the flies off.  If its really cool then best wrap it in cling but make sure there is no sweating. I aways keep cakes covered in cling/foil to stop edges getting over dry.  Hope that helps.

Yes perfect Petitecat, its got plenty of small bubbles but is firm, cuts wonderful for slicing would work for shaping (Ive never carved for shapes).  You wont be disappointed and it does taste sensational too.  It keeps moist for days so ideal for decorating.

Roxy -  you have inspired me to try the upside down method on my next cake - I always just work at it for ages to get sharp edges!

Natt I always try for ages to get smooth edges and have never got them sharp around the top, the upside down method was actually pretty quick to do and hopefully I will get quicker everytime.

Bit slow today, lots of interest in future cakes, not so much sales, and because I'm a bit in limbo about the job stuff I feel bad saying yes to anything, but I can't say no because if I don't get the job I need the business!

Why Siany?

Yes and no, if I get the job I'm being interviewed for I'll be contracted for over 50 hrs a week, so pretty much no cake order is going to be possible if I do in fact wish to also sleep and see anyone...

Great if I don't get the job though!
