AHi all, just popping in for a minute to say hi!!!

Barbara, catsmum, roxylee, all your cakes are beautiful!!! :D

Today I finished the cupcake tower wedding cake. Here are the two pictures I've got for the moment. My friend is going to set it up at the venue and take lots of photos for me.

Also made a bride and groom topper in their work uniform to go on the cheese cake they are having. Forgot to take photos but when my friend sends them, I will post them.

And now have to finish two more cakes for tomorrow. Shall see you all again tomorrow. Take care everyone!!!

Ans, MBalaska, nice to have a guest in the thread!!!

A[@]Siany01[/@] your poured ganache looks great! Looks like a little minion!

I was thinking tho, I know I suggested fixing to a board and scraping for your whipped but maybe a mould would work? You could spoon some whipped into something like the bottom of a bottle cut off and then press your cake into the soft ganache? You could buy ice cube molds for hearts maybe and do the same? I think that'd be a really neat finish... Just a thought hope it helps :-)

Love the cakes bashini! Lovely lovely colours!

ARoxylee, don't know how I missed your cake earlier but it's lush! Siany I did see yours but forgot to comment, (it was the rock that did it!), the hearts are so cute, I just wouldn't have the patience! Bashini, love the giant cupcake, fab colours and I so want that cake board! MBalaska you don't have to visit us to try our cakes, just make some. And I can recommend Welsh cakes (or bakestones as I know them), much better than scones. There's a question actually, to my fellow taffys, do you call welsh cakes welsh cakes or bakestones?

natt12321  :ouch:  sorry for sneaking in............... I often look at the fab cakes that you guys decorate!  They are different than American bakery stuff and I'm constantly amazed at your creations. When I can afford to go to your part of the world, I'm going to try your sponge cake, madeira cake, and fruit cakes covered with marzipan and fondant, scones, lemon curd, and jam cakes.  mmmmmm

Its always nice to be vivisited by complementary americans!

I love the idea MBalaskas cake tour around the country!

AHaha! I grew up watching and then helping my gran make bakestones- on the bakestone! I was probably in my late teens when I realised everyone else calls them Welsh cakes, even a lot of Welsh people.

AYes MBalaska, our cakes are easy to make, usually 4 simple ingredients, you should try them sometime. Like Maisie said our Welsh cakes made properly on an old fashioned bake stone, really they are lovely!!

Bashini, your cupcakes are pretty, and your making a wedding came to match are you?

Natt, you have an interview???? How exciting!, keeping it under wraps till you know either way? How'd your stall go today?

Maisie hows your cake? Please tell me you didn't make another one?

I do, on Monday, in Cardiff.... Part of me is just afraid I won't find it! (I can only just navigate Swansea!) It's two stages so I have to pass the first stage to even get a look in at the job, but I'm gonna do my best!!

It went ok, not as well as last week, but I still have tomorrow to make it up!

Maisie - I call them Welsh cakes, but then down by me no one would call us Taffys! (unless you mean the barbers? hehe)

AYep good luck natt- and I mean with driving around Cardiff! I hate it, I used to drive all over Europe (before satnavs) and I'd rather that than Cardiff! I lived a while in England and Germany, that's where Taff comes from. No, I didn't make another cake nanny, I'm using the split one. I don't want to talk or even think about cake til th morning now (she announces on a cake forum!) I've had a nightmare day, if My life was a soap people would say "that would never happen in real life, this programme's too far fetched, turn over"! I'll tell you tomorrow and (hopefully) post a pic. Off to bed now, night all.

A

Sorry I didn't update last night. I was bushed! Chapter 4 Anyway all turned out well apart from the weather; it rained and rained and more rain. Poor bride! The set up took over 2 hrs. First near disaster was that the bride wanted the cake positioned at the end of an oblong table facing out into the seating area. We had taken loads of care in all stages of the cake-making, filling and covering to ensure all the cakes were level using a spirit level at each stage. However once we put the cake stand on the table and checked the level we found the table provided was bowed. The organiser found another which was slightly better so heart attack was avoided but cost us time.

Anyway pleased with the outcome although we changed the arrangement slightly "on the hoof". My criticism is the use of the pink petals, my choice would have been ivory throughout, but that is what was requested. All I can see when I look at this cake are these (remind me of those soft rubbery pink shrimp sweets you used to get)- some of you will remember them. That 's such a shame after all the hours of thought and work that went into it. (Note to self: refocus on flowers not vases.)

To whoever asked pearl sheen was just the PME pearl spray.

Now just have to wait for feedback.......and put my kitchen and dining room straight. More cake room envy!

The End

ACatsmum, totally agree, it gorgeous, very elegant. She had her reason for going with pink petals, but I do think like you ivory would have been so much nicer. It is a very very beautiful cake

I'm getting stressed enough making little car, cant imagine how you felt .

AHi everyone I've just joined I've only recently started baking I'm starting small building my skills one at a time I feel I'm very happy with my vanilla cupcakes so I've moved on to strawberry ones. So I'm talking about the actual cake not the buttercream, I'm so confused there are so many different recipes that use dried, fresh strawberries some use extract some use jam. What have you guys found to be the best way of making tasty strawberry cupcakes? I used fresh strawberries puréed earlier but they sunk In the middle and was quite moist. Help... Danielle

AHi Danielle, welcome our fab little group.

Have to be honest, I havn't made strawberry cakes only lemon, choc, coffee, orange, etc, I do use a lot of natural flavorings, maybe use the fresh pureed for the cream.

AWow Catsmum, it's beautiful! I see what you mean about the shrimps and I agree, ivory would've been better but that wasn't up to you was it, before I read what you wrote I looked at the photo and assumed the pink was the brides choice.

AOh okay I thought they were quite common to be honest. I just can't seem to get my head around a recipe a lot say don't use purée cos the liquid will make the sponge moist which it has and alot say do use the purée.ayne I'm best just sticking to a vanilla cupcake with strawberry buttercream? And thanks :)

HI Danielle, welcome to CC and the thread :)

I've never made strawberry cake (as in the cake is strawberry) but the Americans do seem to make it a lot. Try searching this site in the recipe section or bbcgoodfood. I think you can use puree- just not a lot and you'd probably have to use an extract to make sure the flavour is right- but I'm just guessing! You'll have to experiment with the recipes to get the right one. When I test a new recipe, I only make half or even a quarter of it and make cupcakes.

Catsmum- WOW WOW WOW! I bet the bride was ecstatic with her cake. I agree with the petals- I would have prefereed ivory/white. Now I know what you meant by vases!

Natt good luck with your interview :)

Yeah I wanted to stick to fresh ingredients if possible but I may have to accept defeat on this one and try a strawberry extract instead of using as much purée. Thanks for the help

Mbalaska, If you're ever in my neck of the woods (Cheshire) I'd love to serve you some English treats- scones! choose scones! You will love clotted cream and jam on top of that, and you'll never want to go back to America!
