AI have done it twice. Once when I did a dummy cake, which was a real pain and then I did a small 6" cake for my friend. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. I covered it I ganache first. Did you put a board in between the cakes?

AI'm so delighted you made that fruitcake Sugarluva.:-D Told you it was easy didn't I?! Can't wait to see it when it's decorated.

All this talk of double barrels and 9 inch tiers reminded me to ask something. Are our servings the same size as the Americans? I doubt I'll ever make a cake that needs to feed x amount of people, just out of curiosity.

AOh yeah, board and supports half way, I wouldn't trust it to stand otherwise... Although ganache is surprisingly strong isn't it!

AYes, that's what I did for my friend's cake as well. It was a trial for the wedding cake. Ganache is the way to go for any cake!!:-)

Maisie, I am not sure. But I go by 2"x1" for sponge cakes and 1"x1" fruit and carrot.

AWow you've all been busy! I am loving all the cakes and really enjoyed the power station and jersey combo! Nannycook you turned it into a classy cake. Bashini and Gray - lovely cakes! Superb.

Mel and Siany - I got to CI at 9.30am and left at 4pm! Asleep by 9pm - lol. Been tasting chocolate tonigt - all of us - for my foray into chocolate decorations. I am not impressed with some of my purchases. Best of the bunch was the value white chocolate at 30p a bar! Will get some more next week. It's a hard life

Did you try the chocolate at CI  Ohhh Myyyy Goddddd!!! it was so delicious.

I am a stupidly excited kiddy right now.  After spending hours looking for clock images and failing to find one I like to be printed as a choc transfer sheet I had a flash of inspiration.  I am having the words 'I'm Late' on repeat printed so I can wrap that around the pocket watch cakes.  So the rabbits pocket watch is going to have I'm late I'm late all around it.  Eeee im so excited lol

Morning Nanny - I tried to reply last night but my phone decided not to play nice and I almost fully expected to see half a dozen posts from me saying the same thing!  In the end nothing came over.  I got some Green & Blacks in various flavours and percentages and Tesco finest Swiss in all the colours.  I also got Tesco value white chocolate at 30p a bar and in a blind taste test this was the one we all liked best!  The others cost me quite a bit.  I am going to try Sainsbury next week because (and I'm sorry I forgot who suggested this for moulding chocolate) it was posted on here as being an OK chocolate.

Siany - I bought two big bags of white chocolate from Tracey Mann's stall as well as a bag of cocoa butter and chocolate transfer sheets and......the chocolate shoe mould.  I am going to do the girlies a shoe each for Easter next week and I don't want it to taste naff.  I also bought some chocolate pastes from her too because I wanted to know what it should taste like before I venture into making my own.  Did you try the cappucino flavoured one?  They really were heavenly.  I also loved the vanilla sugarpaste on the Karen Davies stand - I didn't buy any of that because I spent over £40 on moulds!

I am too scared to add up everything I spent - not sure I want to admit it to myself really (and even more sure that I don't want to admit it to my husband - he'll go mad!).

I love the idea of "I'm late" banners - I can't wait to see the cakes.

If anybody can recommend a decent chocolate that I can get at a reasonable price please let me know!

Now back to watching Mo - when we went to Excel on Friday, we were swamped by marathon runners who were registering and I did try to get my photo taken with a giant shoe but DD dragged me away.  Was also going to get my photo done inside the cupcake dress but somebody was hogging the limelight and then DD was so embarrassed when she saw me waiting that she walked off - so I reluctantly followed!  I do love a novelty pic! :-D

AMorning all.:-) Siany I love how excited you are about your "i'm late cakes", I can't wait to see them! Everyone sounds like they had so much fun at Cake International, Kathy I love embarrassing my son, one of the few perks of having a teenager I think!

I came here to ask for help (yes, I know, again! Sorry!) I watched the youtube video Mel suggested and ever since I've been trying to figure out what size 5 petal cutter goes with what size single petal cutter. I've read all the ebay listings (took ages!) and looked online but still clueless! Does anybody know? I don't mind what size the rose will be just as long as an x 5 petal cutter goes with a y single petal cutter.

AHi Maisie, I use 5 petal cutters from Orchad producers.the numbers are F6B & F6C. I also got a set of 3 medium metal petal cutter. I think I bought it from Alan Dunn. To make the roses, I use medium and large cel buds, which quite easy as it's not heavy.

And I will try to find a great tutorial on making roses. :-)

AJust jumping on quickly, but Maisie you can always cut up the 5 petal cutters to create single petals, I've done that before to save having to buy extra cutters :-D

Back later for a better catch up, DIY day today!

ADayscakes I always use Asia's cheapest chocolate for making ganache because I find it just works better than others I've tried. It tastes nice too. Sometimes I think the cheaper stuff is better for things like ganache and modelling chocolate - thoigh I have only make white modelling chocolate once.

I've been busy making little rabbits, carrots and rabbit bums for my easter cakes :)

ASugarluva & Barbara, they are sooo cute!!!:-) I am still not sure whether to make a cake for Easter or not!!!

Here is what I've been doing. One of my brides haven't decided on the flowers. So making some sample sprays to show her. The colours are cameo and navy blue. That's the first example and then I thought it needed some colour. So added a red ranunculus. What do you think?

AArg burned my nuts!... Thought that was suitable with all the talk of bums lol

I soooo love the half flopped ear!

Banshini I'd say if you go with the poppy it has to face forward, it's too good to have facing away! But if you leave it out the white Rose forward looks wonderful :-)
