Happy birthday Kelsey. You look lovely long hair or short!

I'm making mini cakes this coming week. They look great but they are a pain to make because the Silverwood mini cake tins don't have bottoms. For those of you who have tried my choc cake recipe, you know how runny my batter is. I wouldn't have ordered the darn tins if I'd known they were bottomless!! grrrr

How's everyone enjoying this lovely sunny sunday?

AThanks everyone. :-) The raffle winner just phoned me to thank me again and to say it was the best cake they'd tasted and it went down really well. Made my day but when I answered the phone and she said who she was my heart sank, I thought she was going to say there was something wrong!

Aw newstreet what a lovely reaction from your brother! And you deserve it too, it's beautiful! Aw, I bet you were crying with him weren't you?

How did the fayre go Lizzy? I hate it when that happens, work so hard to clean as you go and then somebody chucks icing sugar all over the place, when I catch whoever does it in my house I'll have their guts for garters! :-D

ABit too sunny for me Jean but nice to get some washing on the line.

Hi Kathy, glad you had a lovely holiday. :-) Nanny's away already, went Monday I think.

Leah had a lovely time, I loved how excited you were, nanny was even worse, as soon as she found out you'd guessed she was plaguing me! :-D I'm hoping to get a photo of her at the reception but they're being a bit vague atm.

You sound a bit like me, but that cake looked amazing! It made me think of M&S Percy Pigs too, which is never a bad thing.

Happy birthday Kuuushi! All the best people are born in September ;-)

I feel like I crashed this thread the other day then disappeared. I had a busy day shopping and visiting The Beatles childhood homes yesterday with my husband & mother-in-law. Now I need to think what I want to do for my birthday and, more importantly, when I'm going to do the first test-run of this wedding cake recipe.

Haha!!  I bet she was plaguing you!  Lol.  Did anybody else guess it?  (I loved the subtle "clues"!).

I hope you do get a photo - it will be lovely to have that.

Love the cake Newstreet! :-D

Still trying to catch up while doing the washing and watching Strictly....who are some of these "celebrities" anyway??  There's some barrel scraping going on methinks!!

AThanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I've had a wonderful day! Done lots of things and have been verrrrry spoilt!

Firstly I woke up to a pandora charm!

The "protection hand" or as I like to call it "hand of Fatima" hubby knows style lol!

Got dressed and he took me out for lunch for my favourite type of food, Mediterranean!

Then off to verdis for dessert!

Then mum came over and brought me a birthday cake and a few pressies... I'm so proud of get cake attempt! All those years I was decorating when I lived at home must have helped I think! HOW GOOD IS THAT FOR A FIRST ATTEMPT?!

Sorry I've almost missed it, but Happy Birthday Kuuushi!!  Sounds like you had a lovely day!  Love the new hair cut!  Very chic!

Welcome back from your holiday, Kathy.  So, BSG tomorrow night?  LOL!!!  I promise it'll be on this month! (well, that's what they told me, anyway.)

Love the piggies in mud cake!  No wonder the winner loved it!!

I know I've missed some posts - I'm sorry.  I'm not ignoring you, but I've only managed to dip in and out this week.....

Well, I can't believe I survived this week relatively unscathed (apart from the fact the stress and fatigue had me reaching for all sorts of really fattening food.  I started out quite well, but as the week went on, so has the weight, I'm sure!!)  I had a 4 tier wedding cake, 2 birthday cakes and a Christening cake.  I know plenty of people for whom that wouldn't be the slightest issue.  But it's a lot for me.  But I got them all done!!

Anyway, I'm going to finish the last bit of clearing up in the kitchen so I can go to bed soon!  Come hell or high water I'm back at the gym tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Suzanne

Blinkin' eck - you've been busy!  I'm not sure now about tomorrow mainly because we're picking up our new car and I'm a bit worried!!! Lol.  I'm bad enough going to places I'm familiar with let alone somewhere new...and in a brand new car!  I can't park for toffee - there, I've said it.  I'm shocking at parking.  So I might have to get used to it a bit.  I might investigate the one in the Drive though - it's nearer to me so I could even walk! Lol.  Pictures needed of your cakes now please! :-D

Put on a shedload of weight in Cornwall so it seems like I'm back on the 5:2 this week :(

Kathy - here you go!

A design I've done a couple of times before, but this time with a topper supplied by the customer. 4 tiers of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, covered with marzipan and sugarpaste and decorated with piped royal icing pearls and hand-made sugar roses.

Set up a the venue - a beautiful barn conversion

Close-up of the hand-made roses.

Stanley is having a pool party at his grandmother's house tomorrow... but also has a 'reptile & creepie crawlie' party coming to entertain the children - with snakes, spiders, lizards, frogs.... Rather them than me! It was bad enough having to make a spider out of sugar!

Close up of the sugarpaste tarantula.

Close-up of the sugarpaste snake.

A quick cake for a friend who has hired a London Route Master bus for his daughters' birthdays. Family and friends are looking forward to a trip around the sights of London tomorrow!

I've done this design a few times now - it's popular for both Christenings and First Holy Communions - but this is the first time I've done it on a square cake.

New street, fantastic cake, missed it earlier, well done.

Kathy glad you had a lovely holiday. I think you should drive to bscg tomorrow in your new car, no better way to get used to it.

I've been making lots of flowers (only little push cutter ones) for my cakes next week and olaf has a foot and lower body, trying to give it time to set so he doesn't crush himself lol. I was really worrying about these cakes but I think I'm ok now. Was worrying about how to cover the boards as they are not the same shape as the cake, nosing on basho is site and spotted the drapey material effect on the boards she did and thought hmm I wanna play with that and it solves this issue :)

Right off to bed, before midnight to, I'm doing well lol

ASome have been very busy caking this week I don't know how you all do it!

Sounds like you had a lovely birthday Kelsey, you've been spoilt rotten Hehe

The O is for hair for those who asked, it's a set of heated rollers for curling and creating volume in your hair... Been eyeing it up myself for a while but I am hopeless at doing my own hair! You'll have to let me know if its any good Kelsey.

I'm off to bed now, busy week ahead but I'm determined to stay up to speed with what's going on on here for once haha.

Night all!

AThanks girls! Hehe!

An "o" is basically a pod that heats up individual Velcro rollers in 4 seconds. They go in your hair cold and then warm up in your hair. Then you can take out when they cool down!

Saves warming up a 1940 style roller set and them going cold before they even go in!

newstreet - I missed the pic of your cake yesterday.  Sorry!  It's beautiful and I'm not surprised your brother loved it!  Congratulations!!

I'm up.  You know when you're REALLY tired when you wake up and your eyes look all small and piggy?  That's me today!  But I HAVE to go to the gym.  Put on 2 pounds over the last few weeks and although I know that's not a lot, it's a slippery slope!!  I've just checked online and there's a beginners pilates class at 10.30, so I might go and do 30-45 minutes cardio in the gym and then see if there's room for me the class!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Can anyone recommend where to get an edible image printed? I've not done one before. Can you get something like the KFC logo printed or is that not allowed because of copyright? Ta!

Google edible images UK and you'll get loads of companies that print them out. You just have to send them a jpg or other image file of what you want printed out. Bear in mind that you have to pay postage but it's not much :)

I'm starting to get a little bogged down with the details on this cake and now doubting my skills (I'm terrible for doing this!)

I'm trying to decide what would be best for the filling and outer buttercream. My main concerns are about it being unrefrigerated for 1 1/2 days, transported approx. 4 hours across the country and getting chocolate panels to stick. I don't want the chocolate pieces to keep sliding off because the buttercream is too soft! Obviously, some of the buttercream/ganache outer would be left exposed and the chocolate isn't going to provide as much of a seal as fondant would.

Because I wanted a hazelnut praline buttercream inside and a chocolate hazelnut central layer inside and outside, I was worried that using a buttercream and ganache would provide a weird texture together. Some of my more specific worries are:-

Standard buttercream - worried it will taste cheap. According to lots of US bakers on here, you should at shortening/Trex, but can it be all butter?

Ganache - if on outside and left exposed, is it at risk of spoiling? Will the chocolate pieces stick to this properly?

Swiss meringue buttercream - I've found this very soft in the past, so worried the chocolate pieces will slide off.

Italian meringue buttercream - never tried it, so I'm open to anyone's opinion on this!

Another random question - can the Wilton cake serving guide be trusted or does that work differently in the US. I've been told they're having 75 guests, so I thought it might be best to cater for 100, to be on the safe side.

AHi All

Danielle can't really help as I'm only a beginner really lol ! I'm sure one of the others can help you though.

Kelsey sorry I missed your birthday ! glad you had a great day and got spoilt :-D

Kathy pleased you had a nice holiday in Cornwall :)

Maisie your cake was great and deserved reaction from the winner I'd say :-)

Lovely cake Newstreet well done, and Relznik yours are beautiful too - even the snake lol !

I baked my cake for the shark cake last night and it was choc and it cracked on the top a bit, I don't normally have this when towels round tins but think my make shift towel slipped at the back so hence the little dome and crack. Just hope it doesn't turn out too dry, oh well it is just another 'favour' !

Getting stressed with the three cakes I have on this week, I don't know how all of you do it without be nervous wrecks ! Hopefully I will be able to plan my time better with working, kids, and house - wish me luck lol.
