ANewstreet, can you trim the 6 to make it a 5",then it will look like it's intentional?

AIt might actually work really nicely, if you put the flowers on the 10" tier, they'll have more space on the edge and I bet it wouldn't even notice x

Ooh - I forgot to tell you earlier...

...  whilst our 'brushes with celebrity' were being shared.....  I'm sort of, but not really, almost related to my childhood idol!

I was the biggest fan of the 80s series Kids From Fame.  I cannot tell you how much I loved it.  Lived and breathed it.  And I loved the character Doris Schwartz - played by Valerie Landsburg.

Well (you'll need to concentrate for this)....

My aunt by marriage (ie my mum's brother's wife - still with me so far?) is 1st or 2nd cousins with Valerie Landsburg's mother.  So that means Valerie is also my aunt's cousin.  And by virtue of my Auntie Gloria being her cousin, I declare myself very loosely, but yeah, I know, not really related to my childhood idol Valerie Landsburg!

Several years ago, she was in London and stayed with my aunt for a couple of days.  I asked my aunt if I could come over to meet her.  They said 'of course!'.

She was so nice - despite the fact that with anyone even vaguely well-known I turn into a gibbering wreck!  I took my Kids From Fame CD with and asked if she'd sign it for me (I'm pathetic, right?) and she signed it 'To my cousin Suzanne, Love Valerie'.

Shall I get my coat?

Nope! Totally counts. You're cousins. She wrote it and then signed it, so I reckon that's legally binding! ;)

AThanks Lizzybug, don't know if I can face the shaving job, I will try the flowers and if they don't work I will shave. I have been planning this cake for months I can't believe it.

My claim to fame is I met Jared Leto on a beach when I was 15, the gay bells should have started ringing then when I wasn't all that interested :D:-D:-D

What she said!

I did the same on my recent wedding cake. Meant to do 10, 8 & 6 - actually did 12, 8 & 6. Just whacked the rose petals on and you'd never know it wasn't intentional... ;)

Equally, smbc/imbc both have the eggs cooked to a safe point, and again will last just fine from a safety point of view of that's your concern.

Oh no! Now I have a massive dilemma about which to use... I do want chocolate hazelnut flavour in the central layer and on the outside, with a paler hazelnut praline buttercream on top and bottom layers. I need to put my thinking cap on.

I have two pretty poor claims to fame. I once beat Sean Lennon (John Lennon & Yoko Ono's son) 7-0 at air hockey at a Pontin's holiday camp. My other one is I was once in a band with someone who was previously in a band with the man who (sort of) discovered Sophie Ellis Bextor. And one of our songs was co-written by him. Yeah, pretty poor really!

AAw thankyou so much everyone. X I'm blubbing again now! It was this evening, I dropped her off at 3pm and picked her up at 9.45 (was supposed to be 8.30 but they waited for Obama who was running late cos he specifically wanted to meet the kids) Prince Charles spoke to her and shook her hand, her teacher told him she'd been practising her curtsey all week and he said "well we must see it then" so Leah curtsied and got a round of applause. Angela merkel, the Norwegian prime minister and Barack Obama were marvellous with the kids apparently. Leah invited the mayor to her school, he accepted. People from the civic centre were coming up to us to tell us how good she'd been, how proud we should be (like I need telling!) and that she's a credit to us and the school. I'm bursting with pride and tired out so I'm off to bed now. So sorry to come on and ignore everyone, I'll catch up properly tomorrow when I'm back down to earth. :-D Thanks again everyone. Night night. :-)

Kelsey wow fab cakes love the shoe the colour is lovely, love football badge standing and the glitter letters did you make them yourself? Cupcakes look lovely especially like the coloured swirls. you must be ready to drop. When is it your birthday is it today?

AThanks Roxy! The badge I did from sp covered polystyrene and then edible image on top and the glitter numbers here are foam ones because I had them there so used them for convenience! The glitter number on my doc cake I made though. Just rolled out thick sp, used a number cutter and let it dry for a day, brushes it with edible glue and then covered it in glitter! Simple :)

I think this is my favourite colour blue so far with the shoe it's beautiful! The last one was done in purple but I think the blue gives it more elegance!

Birthday is Sunday Roxy, doubt I'll see much of it because of sleep!

This made me properly snort laugh :-D In a completely ladylike manner of course though :-D

Maisie, that sounds like an amazing evening for Leah. How did she feel about it? Was she really excited? :-)

My hubby's claim to fame is that his great great great grandfather (I have no idea how many greats it needs) founded Vancouver. Mine is that I made truffles for Dame Vera Lynn's birthday. My grandma's was that she was asked to dance by Jeremy beadle at her 80th birthday. She said no, and capped it off by asking who that man was :-) My dad topped that though. He was being taken round Shepperton studios by a friend who worked there, and he and mum were both taken to the restaurant/cafe by him. Halfway through the meal dad's friend leaned over to them and quietly said 'don't look round, but Madonna is sitting behind you'. My dad, ever subtle, said in a normal voice 'Madonna who?' :-D

The blue on that shoe really is lovely Kelsey, I know I said it before but it's so pretty! How did you do the cats (jaguars? Leopards?)? They're great. And yes, I did do that in a Tony the Tiger stylee :-D

AI have a 40th birthday cake due for 20th Sept, I'm thinking a square monopoly board; as we all used to play as teenagers....(quite apart from that, I got my rota at work this week and they have me working that Saturday...so desperately trying to swap a shift! ) Then the element on my fan oven blows last night!!! So there's a job for this weekend. How you all cope with more projects is beyond me.

Welcome Spireite and Sock Monkey! Monopoly board sounds like a great idea. You could have the monopoly board printed out of edible paper and then make the little houses etc out of gumpaste. Could have the money printed out on edible paper too. Hope your oven gets sorted out x

Sock Monkey, love the idea of the juke box!

Maisie, how wonderful about Leah! So fabulous!

Lovely cakes Kelsey! The 3 coloured swirls are lovely.

I don't have much in the way of claim to fame. We do have footballers and their families in the area, so I've seen Colleen and Wayne Rooney in the playground with their kids. Also spoke to Samia of coronation street at the children's play centre while our kids were playing. Quite a few other coronation street stars live here too so I see them in the supermarket every now and then. Oh, and Russel Watson (opera singer) lives very close to us- hubby said he heard him sing once. I never have! He's not bad looking, shame he's taken. Oh wait, I'm taken too!! Bradley Cooper would have a fit...

Aooh that sounds a fun cake Spireite :) hopefully you get the oven fixed though! ...you can get edible monopoly money on ebay- that would be a fun addition to your cake :)

I know what you mean re orders.... if my work wasn't flexible I'd be stuck.... there have been times I've had to take an emergency day off or I wouldn't have finished a cake! eek! I refuse to work late though..... tools down at 9pm..... that's a rule I made after a very difficult 6 months taking on far more than it was worth.

Working in the NHS means I rarely leave my ward before 21;45 (I actually finish at 21;30), then have a 40 min journey.....so am often home at gone 10;30pm!!!!

Probably why I only OFFER to do cakes on my terms and am panicking a bit about my sister asking me to do her (simple single tiered) wedding cake!!!

I'm thinking Monopoly in essence and not in fine intricate detail! I was purely thinking large green square cake with the coloured spaces around the outside...the 'GO' might get written on but I know there will NOT be room for my writing names on it! I'm such a fraud! I might borrow the playing pieces from the real thing!

2.30am finish for me. :-(

Had an awful day, just not managing to properly get started for one reason or another.  Then I did my famous ostrich with its head in the sand routine - was dreading doing various bits on the cake, so I did NOTHING.

Still need to finish it off.

As well as finishing that cake in time for 6pm collection, I have a 10" cake baked, that I need to fill, cover and decorate (preferably before bed tonight!!).  That's a freebie for a good friend, so I'm just sticking an edible image on it!!!!  And I also need to bake and decorate a 10" cake to deliver by midday on Sunday for a Christening.  Having done the wedding cake for Tuesday, I'm feeling completely shattered!  And I've only just had breakfast.  I REALLY need to get a move on!
