AMorning Sugarluva, rice pudding. Or Tapioca, or any milk puddings. They freeze well too.

AOr milky coffee or homemade frappe's. I use at least that much milk a day, I use skimmed now but can you imagine how many calories I was consuming just in milk when it was full cream!

AMorning cake mates! How's the cake Kelsey? Looks fab btw. Just a thought but couldn't you use lemon juice instead of vodka? I haven't followed the whole saga so may be talking out of my rear end!

Bashini I love the suitcase! I love the look of it with the map - how did you do that?!!

Mel I think your first instincts are the ones you stick with - you are not free, so don't do it.

Suzanne - so pleased your boy got the grade. What does he want to do? From personal experience - don't let him leave it until the week before he has to submit his uni application!!! And Tiddy - so your boy is off to college now...what's he going to do? Sorry being nosey. My boy is going to be starting work - yes, work! - while I'm in Cornwall. I hope to goodness he can get out of bed because I'm not going to be around. My daughter said it's probably just as well I'm not around but.....I just hope that he settles in. Cost me an arm and a leg for a new wardrobe of clothes - that was his graduation gift. However, I was congratulating him on his choices (new suit, shoes, shirts and ties) - but Ihad to grit my teeth as I thought £75 for a blinkin' laptop bag was excessive! Anyway - it's up to him.

Busy today - nobody else in the office and I thought it would be lovely and quiet.....big mistake. I'm getting all sorts flung my way.

AMorning Kathy. How are you? I think £75 is excessive for a laptop bag too! He could've had one made of cake for that! I'd also worry about not being there to get him up, my son just cannot drag himself out of bed in the mornings if I'm not around.

Sorry mel, missed your post. I think it's a bit dodgy too. And apart from anything else not being able to decorate it yourself would be a bit of an anti climax wouldn't it? You wouldn't feel like you'd finished. And it goes without saying that if they decorate it and it's hideous people seeing it will think it's your work and you'll get a bad reputation.

He wants to do software development.  He knows exactly what route he has to take and which uni he'd like to go to...  and he's only 15.

He told me needs to take Maths and Physics at A level (not sure what the 3rd one will be yet) and then he wants to go to Imperial College London (I think...  it may be University College London...  but it's one of the two) to do Computer Science.  And he knows he needs to get at least AAB in his A Levels to get in!!!

He needs 7 GCSEs at at least grade B to get into his school 6th form, but to do Maths A Level you DO need to get a grade A or A* at GCSE.

And he also needs to ensure he gets at least A-C in English...  that's what he struggles with.  Trying to find a good tutor at the moment.  Not easy!!!

He actually really surprised me with how much work/revision he put into these two GCSEs.  Hopefully it's give him the boost to believe he CAN do well if he works hard and he can replicate these results with the rest of his exams next year!!

Yuk I hate coffee! Anything even remotely coffee flavoured makes me heave. Even coffee chocolates! Rice pudding is a good idea though thanks. I can't believe you drink that much milk a day haha. I'm struggling to get through it all!

AYou must be so proud of him Suzanne. My son is 20, completely aimless and has zero ambition. It's the cause of most of our arguments and I get so frustrated with him cos all through school and college they said he could do whatever he wants to do, he's an intelligent boy. If he wasnt and struggled with school I could understand it but I can't stand such a waste of a good brain. And then I look at Leah who never stood a chance and it makes me even angrier with him! Maybe there's time for him to change but the older he's getting the less likely it's looking.

AI love coffee sugarluva. I drink gallons of it, very strong and very milky. Speaking of which I'm off to put the kettle on. Then I'll make Leah's lunch and then I really must make some more minecraft figures.

I have one like that too Maisie! He was unemployed for ever and no get up and go at all, does make you mad :-x he does now have a job but by god he wants a medal each day for going!

My 16 yr old is doing I.T as hes a complete tech geek :-D and my other sone is at agricultural college as hes aiming for farming. He passed with a distinction last year and am so chuffed as hes the one with all the problems. Totally get where youre coming from Maisie.

Sadly I had an awful night with head and a double bout of sleep paralysis so i am completely zombie like today, and yes I shall be resting completely.

Suga - had to chuckle when i read about the milk. We go through 8 litres here a day!  most of which will be going in my jugs of coffee i think :(

AOh Tiddy - sorry the head is back. You poor thing. You must feel like you don't know ify ou are coming or going. That's so good when you know how hard your kids have worked that they get the recognition they deserve. Well done to both your boys.

Hi Maisie! I'm doing OK - all things considered. Get this week over with and things should relax a bit. How about you?

Suzanne - that's great that he knows what he wants to do. I guess you know that you need to check Imperial's requirements of subjects before he chooses his third one. They are funny and some subjects are a no go. If he's at County I'm sure they will guide him. I could kick myself because it was all new to me and at the time I should have spent longer with my son choosing subjects. He was good at most things which made it hard but when it came down to a course change at Uni (he hated his course and didn't tell us for absolutely ages) he found that he couldn't do the other thing that he loved because his A levels weren't right. Luckily, he managed to get on to a Music degree due to his other subject and now he is going to be a music teacher (with a possibility to teach maths too! He is happy now but it started out very differently. My daughter on the other hand is much more focused - a bit like your son. She's going into her final year and we were all thrilled to bits when she got a first at the end of last term. This counts 50% towards her final masters degree. So....fingers crossed. As they say - one down and one to go!

Milk - bleeugh - I'm allergic! 2 litres spends a long time in my fridge Lol.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad night Tiddy, make sure you do rest today. Your banned from the cake room feel better BIG HUGS xxx

Sugarluva I'm with you hate coffee of any kind even the smell, we don't drink coffee in our house at all. You could make custard or cheese sauce for cauliflower cheese or macaroni cheese, bread sauce, yorkshire puddings or you could add lemon juice or vinegar to the milk to make buttermilk for baking. You can also freeze milk.

Glad everyone's kids are doing so well.

AYes tiddy he completely does my head in! He's 20 years old, no dependants, nothing to hold him back, the world at his feet. Arrrgh I just want to shake some sense into him! Gutted your head is back, I am glad you're resting now tho, you need to look after yourself a bit more I think.

I'm ok Kathy, son aside! It's (well would've been) my dad's birthday tomorrow and we're off to porthcawl to put his ashes on my brothers grave. My mam is having a tough time but I s'pose it's to be expected at this time of year. I think I'm going to win the lottery and buy a big house, move my family in and then I can look after my mam, Leah, my grandad and my auntie all in one place. Going from place to place to place is hard work, I feel like I'm running just to stand still most days! I'm glad you're doing ok, you've had a tough time. With your son starting work and your daughter doing so well I hope this is a chance to put the bad behind you and look forward to good times to come. :-)

ALady's and gents, can't h up properly in a bit but just had a request for cupcakes, I'm getting the hang of cake prices but cupcakes I'm not 100% on what's right, so 3 flavours, lemon, choc & strawberry (though I'd do vanilla with strawberry icing) just a roses swirl. Is £1.50 each too much, so £150 in total?

Oh duh, no they are having a chilled wedding with nothing frilly etc. they are having a cake made by family but as a last minute thought they should get some cupcakes too as more guest than they originally planned. We are actually going to the wedding so I'm not worried about plain iced. I suggested it as I'm worried about the volume and any other decor, what would be a simple informal weddings topper that I could start making a week in advance (weddings 30th)

AOOOH that's great then! £1.50 is great!

You could cut out their initials or some doves? You also could do little banners with the date on it? Quite simple but effective?

AI was just looking at some little flags that are quite sweet actually. I might say that it's £1.50 for plain and if the want toppers, either a flower or disc with their initials then £1.75 each. Feels like so much but it's a lot of work and I'm gonna be pulling my hair out by Friday lol

AEvening all :-) Just hopping on for two ticks, I hope everyone's tickety boo as I've not had a chance to catch up. We got back on Monday and I've been caking all week for this weekend and next. My poor boys have forgotten what I look like.

I'm in full on wedding cake mode today, and it's just taking a ridiculous amount of time today to fill and coat them - I haven't even got round to the sugarpaste yet and I've been on the go all day! I hate days like this, so busy and nothing to show for it. I'm wasted and still have a load of rose dusting to do :-(

Siany, I do a cupcake club once a month at hubby's work and they're £2 each, and apparently there's about 15 more people wanting to join so the price is ok for them. Usually they're unfilled, and I just do a simple decoration (in sprinkles or a swirl of something) on them most of the time, unless I'm feeling fancy :-D

Your cake is gorgeous kelsey, I hope the first one went OK, I seem to remember you had a bit of a trek with it?

Night all xx

AGorgeous cake Kuuushi, I think it is better than your first one, maybe cos it's pink tho, we love all things pink in this house. :-)

I'd pay £1.50 for a cupcake Siany. If you think about it a cupcake is one individual serving so how much would a wedding cake to feed 100 be? And 100 cupcakes are more work than a cake to feed 100. I think so anywY but I don't much like making cupcakes.

It'll all be worth it when it's done Lizzy, stop now, go to bed, have a good sleep and start again fresh in the morning.

I'm off to bed now. G'nite all. :-)

AThanks for your advice guys. I gave her the two options of plain for 1.50 or with a small topper 1.75 and she opted for the topper.it's just a simple one so not complex just time consuming cuting out letters. Very excited to have been askred.

AMorning all - got a tiny cake for three of our August birthdays - my sister, niece and my daughter! It's going to be small because everyone is off on holiday straight after so am only doing one cake with some bits for each on them. Only decided last night to do something! Going to a barbecue with it this afternoon - have no idea yet how to do it. Am going to try a checkerboard cake as I have a red velvet and a vanilla already in the freezer - yep didn't have the foresight to bake them the same! Anyway I hope everyone has a great day today! Glad you got the order Siany, looking forward to seeing them.

Blimey Kathy, I thought I cut it fine with my cakes! No idea how to do a checkerboard cake but I'd love to see photos, maybe you could take some step by step and show us? Do you know how you're going to decorate it yet? A holiday theme would be good if you're all going away. I'm busy today, I need to shift actually, I'll look in later to see how you got on.

Morning all

Kelsey love the minnie cake, I think it's better than your first one and I really love the colour.

Siany good news on the cupcake order, have a good day at legoland.

Kathy looking forward to seeing what you come up with for your cake.

Maisie I've not done a checker board cake yet but all you do is cut a circle out of the middle of each layer and another bigger circle further out and when you piece them back together swap them around. I have a how to in my book if you want it which would probably make more sense than I am right now.:-D
