Jo hope your daughter is ok and you get to go on your hols.

Siany your cake is lovely and the layers look brilliant inside, I could so eat a big piece of that right now :-D Your glad you settled on the agbay then. When is your course at cake camp?

I'm the same Maisie all the days just blur in the summer holidays, Mr Roxy being of work on holidays doesn't help either as he would be off the weekend and then I would know when it was monday

Hi Gray, hope things have settled down now.

AThanks Roxy, it isn't easy but saying that all I've done is cut down portion sizes, and literally stopped picking, not changed what I've eaten as always eaten well.

When I some home I'm gonna try and lose another stone, well give it my best shot anyway.

I have a few hundred pages to catch up on, so that's not going to happen!

I am back though! My life is now settled between working at the shop, working at church and caking.

My step back into the game (I have done other cakes, but was too busy to take photos of them!) is this baby Groot (from Guardians of the Galaxy)

Hoping to now keep up with you all a bit better now!!

AMorning!

Welcome back Natt! Glad things are going well, love the baby Groot, he's so cute!

I hope you got away on your holiday Jo and your daughter is ok x

Belated Happy Birthday Siany, sounds like your had a lovely day! Congrats on the agbay too, v jealous LOL! Definitely the right choice though I think :)

Nanny how's your knee been? Hope it's getting better x

Tiddy hope you are feeling ok, so sorry to hear you've been getting so many attacks :/ Hope Spider-Man decided to cooperate in the end x

Suzanne I'm sooo the same with procrastinating, and list 'crossing off'! Hope your roses are going ok now?

Kathy the silhouette cake is gorgeous! Very elegant!

I had a busy non caking weekend after the cupcakes, Rewind festival was ace on Sunday but a v v long day! Took 2hours just to get out of the car park coming home, and I can't do late nights at the best of times lol, so Monday was a very slow day!

Having a mini flap about this weeks cake already, for some reason my fruit cake didn't bake quite right, it's not quite high enough and for some reason has shrunk away unevenly, so the top is smaller than the bottom, so I'm now wanting to remake it :( Think I'm just in an overanalysing mood, also worrying about the structure and baking of the birdcage tier! Think I just need to get on with it and stop worrying though...

Right. Better get some breakfast sorted and get going!

AMorning everyone, I had a horrible cake nightmare this morning!! I dreamed I was at my grandfathers 90th birthday bash (which is at the end of September) and I had forgotten to make his cake!! It's to be an old submarine (he was a submarine engineer how cool-a job is that!!) ....I only had two hours till the 'unveiling' and I hadn't even baked anything.... urgh still feel queasy now lol!

Good to see you Nat that groot is amazing!! And Sian those layers look great! ....I'd love a slice of that right now.... mmmmm it looks so yummy!

Also I think my CC reputation is spreading to the work coffee table..... all I was doing was chatting about the peanut butter my work-mate was munching for breakfast and after innocent comments such as 'I prefer it rough' and 'you've put me in the mood for some when I get home' incurred some dire looks! (Angelic face)

AMorning all. :-)

You're an early bird Mel, what's the cake for? It'll be a pain to re bake a fruitcake but if it's really uneven you haven't got much choice have you, can't hide it on a fruitcake.

Looks like jo got on her plane then, hope her daughter's better now.

Hi natt, I find it impossible to catch up if I miss a day so you don't stand much chance really. Glad your job is going well, lovely cake even tho I have no idea what a groot is!

Lovely layers Siany. :-)

How's Spider-Man tiddy? Have you finished your CI cake? I'd love a PM if it is, November is too long to wait to see it.

Well done nanny, I'm guilty of picking too, that's probably why I'm fat cos I don't eat huge meals. I don't think you need to lose another stone tho, there'll be nothing of you.

AHi Maisie, it's for a wedding cake this weekend - I do a boiled fruit cake rather than a traditional one hence why I'm baking this week! It's very rich and almost fudgy, which I find most people prefer especially if they aren't fruit cake fans. Just so annoyed it's pulled in at the top, flipping it over it's not too bad, but I think it's a bit more than I could really get away with evening out with marzipan padding. What do you guys think? I'm baking another one anyway as it will still keep for samples, but not sure if it's me being OTT! Having one of my overanalysing days!

Roxy, just worrying in general today it seems lol! Baking the cakes for it today and just worrying they won't bake right and will shrink too much so my middle board will show when I build it etc LOL Also not sure when to put the small dome cake in the oven! Was planning on making one big batch of mix for both of the 5" cakes and the dome tin, but the dome won't take as long to bake, so I don't want to put it in with the other cakes, but also don't like leaving mix out on the side for too long... Think I will have to make and extra tiny batter on it's own.

Have a fab holiday Marvel!! Not at all jealous.....!

Mel the fruit cake look fine to me, with the birdcage I trimmed around my middle board so it wasn't sticking out of the side of the cake so didn't show when I ganached it. I'm sure you cake will be fine your probably worrying for nothing, I think we all have days like that. I baked my 5" cakes and dome at the same time but I only do one layer in the tins I never bake a deep cake and split so had to make a few extra 5" but they don't take long to bake. It probably would have been easier to just bake a big cake and cut the layers out now I think of it.

AMel I think your fruitcake looks fine, I know photos can be deceptive sometimes but I was imagining something that looked like a topsy turvey tier! I'm sure it's nothing that marzipan and sugarpaste won't sort out. Out of interest anyone heard of boiled fruitcakes going mouldy? I was reading about it on another thread a while ago, first I'd heard of it and I know nanny makes them a lot too.

What's wrong with your husbands knee Suzanne? I know that's what you're hoping the scan will find out, I mean what's he done?

Happy holidays m4rvel. :-)

AHi all, I'm flat out busy! Sorry if I seem to ignore you when I do get around to posting!

I've got two cakes this weekend. Another minnie just a little smaller and a snow leopard print. I'm just wrecked after the weekend!

Even though all of that I've managed to lose 5lb in two weeks so hopefully another 5 more by hols. Looks like were off to Rome for a few days then on to Venice for a few more! I hope you enjoy your holiday marvel!

Loving everyone's cakes, talented bunch!

On the CI front it looks like we will probably go up for the Sunday too if it's everyone's preferred day!

AOwch hope your husband is ok, knees are an issue with me too, or used to be (touches everything wooden in the whole house!) Hope the rest of the roses go ok :) I have to admit it's the one thing I miss, doing cakes for a living, is not being around other people on days like this. If I was in an office, or shop I'd have people to chat with and get motivated a bit more by, on my own I'm useless at getting going sometimes! I swear the other day I just sat there not moving for about 10mins because I couldn't decide what to do first!

Thanks Maisie,I do think it's me being daft and I'm sure it would come out ok once covered. I'm baking another one just in case though, and I'll pick the best one! The other will get stored for samples/sent to DHs work LOL so it's not a waste.

I haven't seen anything about boiled cakes going bad? Mine generally don't last that long (ie get eaten, not go off LOL!), but I've had one store for a couple of months before that's been fine? I do mention to customers that it's not a traditional fruitcake though, but I don't find many customers intend to keep them that long anyway!

Congrats on the 5lb Kuuushi! Good luck with your cakes this week!

I'd love to have another holiday, ours seems like blooming ages ago now :(

I must look up the details for CI, haven't even checked the website yet for who's on! Tsk!

Hmm I really must go and get some lunch, been baking all morning and only just realised I'm hungry!

Well, what a pleasant experience the MRI was.

And for once, I'm not being sarcastic!!!!

GP referred him about a week or so ago.  Got a text two days later to call and arrange the appt.  He could have gone on Monday, but chose today.  Spotlessly clean clinic, nice waiting room (but seen spot on his appt time!)  Nice complimentary coffee machine.  We're still in shock.

And, yes, all on NHS!!!!!

He was in excruiating pain...  turns out he's done something to a ligament.  He's been wearing a support which has helped a little, but a physio said he should get it checked.  So he called the GP, explained, and got referred.

No roses been started yet.  Had a late night last night and come over really shattered...  so I think I may study the inside of my eyelids for half an hour and THEN make a start....

AWell done Kuuushi. Dw about seeming to ignore people, I never mean to but I'm sure I miss people all the time, it's impossible to keep up mun.

My fruitcakes never hang around long either mel, you'd think after all the work that goes into them people would have the decency to make them last a bit wouldn't you!

Wow Suzanne, texts, coffee machines clean and on time, that's not the NHS I know! I took my mother to the GP this morning, 10.30 appointment, we got in at 11.45, and that's not the worst I've known it! Ligaments are nasty, take ages to heal properly. :-( I've just had a stooze, it was lovely. Not a typo, Leah can't say snooze, she says stooze, we've adopted it now. I've got faggots in the oven now, faggots, peas and chips for tea, I've been fancying chips since Lizzy had them the other day. And I wonder why I can't lose weight!

Well I had my "stooze" (cute!!  We have adopted SO MANY mispronunciations from when the boys were little...!)  and I still have a tummy ache (I have Crohn's Disease, so nothing nasty and contagious) and a thumping headache.

Feel really 'bleugh' actually.

Hubby is driving into London soon to pick up his mum, aunt, cousin and our 12 year old son from Euston station.  So I will see if I can make a start on roses when he's gone.

Glad the scan went well, hope they can help him manage the discomfort now that they know what it is!

Oooh who said chips? Yum!? I've got a lovely microwave noodle dish for tonight, no way I'm cooking after a whole day baking. Plus less washing up. Hurrah! Although chips do sounds much tastier......

AMm mm they were lush Mel! I've been fancying chips since Lizzy had them the other day. And you know what it's like when you fancy something, you dont stop fancying it til you have it. Or maybe that's just me!

Aw hope you feel better soon Suzanne. A houseful of visitors won't help tho, have another stooze before they get back. It is cute isn't it, we still use words my brothers used when they were little too. And my grandad actually, they're the funniest, he was 86 when he got his first computer and started sending "airmails" on "the Broadland"! :-D
