Ha ha ha, yep having 2 kids is a giveaway isn't it? Your still young though!

Morning :-)

I was refused a single bottle of Guinness about 4 years ago, I thought he was joking and didn't have any id, but he wasn't and flat refused to serve me. I the end I asked him whether my kids (about 8 and 9 years old) sat in the car would prove it! Still didn't get the booze, no stew that night.

Haven't been asked again for a while though, and it stings a bit every time they hit the 'the customer is clearly over 25 button without really looking :-( :-D

I had the opposite to you growing up though kelsey, I could get served in pubs from about 15, never was id'd in clubs, and was mistaken for being in my mid 20's at age 16! When I met hubby at 18 be thought I was 26. I had to prove I was young enough to pay half on buses and at the pictures! I loved it though, you don't mind looking older - especially if it's mid 20's as that's all lovely and young - when you're younger. I did then just look the same sort of age for a long time though, it's only more recently I've started to look my age. Booooo. You'll love looking younger in a few years!

I also used to get spoken to in Spanish without fail when we went on holidays there as I was olive skinned with dark hair and eyes. I still get that occasionally, had two people come up to me at the ideal home this year asking if I was Turkish of all things! I'm not complaining about that one though :-D

Chezzabelle, I think you were very reserved to not say anything! Cheeky bugger!

Have fun at work today you two. I'm in still tidying from Saturday, washing, ironing and trying to make flowers inbetween! I want to just sit in the sun!

The last time I got ID'd was trying to buy a bar of baileys chocolate at Christmas a few years ago! Haha I couldn't stop laughing whilst showing him driving license!

AOh no tiddy, you must be exhausted :-( Are they likely to stay away for a little while now that you've had a load at once, or does that not give you any indication of how they'll be?

AHow sweet is he?! :-D When are you getting married btw? I don't think we've asked!

I was always adult in how I behaved until I actually became an adult. Now I play hide and seek in Tesco with hubby :-D

Blimey - just done a 20 page catch up! Phew.

Well done on the stunning wedding cakes, Bashini and Mel. So glad they got to their destinations without any mishaps. Lovely other cakes peeps (too many to mention individually) but you really are a talented bunch.

I've been maxed out all weekend baking for an old fashioned "afternoon tea" for my best friends and their respective mothers, both approaching 90. I went through a spate a couple of years ago buying cake stands (pedestal and tiered), old fashioned sandwich plates and preserve pots from eBay and yesterday I got the chance to use some of them. The table looked so pretty and everything, even the bread, was home-made.

We started with a glass of champagne then sandwiches (no crusts of course); smoked salmon, cream cheese and chives, chicken with mango chutney mayo, ham and grainy mustard and egg mayo. "Summer" sausage rolls made with chicken, sundried tomato and basil and goats cheese and red onion tartlets. Next tiny bite size scones with homemade strawberry jam and apricot conserve and clotted cream, 2 types of mini cheesecakes (passion fruit and tia maria), blueberry and orange mini loaf cakes and lemon drizzle; strawberry shortcakes (divine) and lastly Opera cake. All washed down with Earl Grey and Twinings afternoon tea. A great afternoon and the ladies loved it.

It was the first time I have made an Italian meringue butter cream and that worked really well for the opera cake. Pastry was a struggle in the heat but got there in the end.

DH and I were "cream crackered" by the time we got cleared up but it was worth all the effort. Back to work today though so leaving DH to pack all the stands away again.

On another note as expected my beautiful cat Charlie has been positively diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease so we are trying to persuade her that the Renal cat food (which costs a fortune) really is good for her. Not convinced so far so we are mixing it with her other food. As the vet has also diagnosed early stage hyperthyroidism we are likely to have a rough ride ahead but while she is showing no signs of distress and is still eating and greeting us we have to hold on to each precious day.

Glad you are back to work Kuuushi. Sorry you are still struggling Tiddy - I don't know how you keep your production line going when you are having such a hard time health wise.

Can't wait for the Bake Off. I read an article saying the standard is really exceptional this year. I remember last series where I was gobsmacked someone was tempering chocolate in Episode 1. Used to like PH until he went off the rails and I wasn't very impressed with Mary's comment that "Boys will be boys". Wonder how she would have felt if her SIL had done the same to her daughter. Rant over!! Both brilliant bakers though and Mel and Sue are so funny.

Have a good day all.

I'm sorry tiddy, you must be fed up to the back teeth (understatement of the year I know) xx

Your afternoon tea sounds delicious catsmum. I love the look of opera cake but I've never made it. Did it take long with all the different elements?

I hope your poor cat decides she likes the renal food soon, they're fussy blighters aren't they.

APhew!!!!!! Caught up with a day and a half's posts!!!!:-D

He everyone.... We were not at home yesterday as we took the kids to the beach. We all had a great time!!!

Thanks to all for kind comments about my cake. :-)

Newstreet, sorry to hear about your daughter but glad she is back home. Regarding the cake height only two sizes come to 5" tall which are 11" & 12" because of baking in two halves. But if you bake other the same way you will get quite high cakes.

Tiddy, your cakes are fabulous as always and sorry you are still going through the pain!! ((((((Hugs))))))))) and looking forward to seeing your shoe cake!! You are just amazing!!!

Chezzabelle, love your christening cake. Booties are not hard to make. Give them a go. You'll love it. :)

Barbara, I can imagine how excited you are about the bake off!!!

Lizzy, I fancy older men too!! Hubby is 8 years older than me!!!:-D

Catsmum, love the sound of your afternoon tea. Love to do one of those one day!

Hoping to go somewhere for 5 days with the family. Thinking Wales and I don't know why?? any suggestion for a good place?

AAfternoon everyone. :-)

Lizzy I highly recommend the Gower (Google Gower Peninsula). It's beautiful. Burry port (Pembroke) is lovely too. Haven't been to Tenby for years but it used to be lovely. I wouldn't bother with porthcawl or Barry if I were you, fond of them as I am they're not what they used to be, there are much nicer places to go.

Sad news about your cat catsmum, I hope she eats her new food soon. Afternoon tea sounds lovely. What did I miss about Mary berry saying boys will be boys then?

Kuuushi, annoying as it is, better that they check your age than sell alcohol and knives to kids isn't it. To be fair to them you really don't look your age. You'll be glad you don't when you're in your forties, trust me!

Lovely new photos everyone. :-)
