AOh believe me, so do I, I can make a meal out of chocolate, adore all choc, crisps etc.

Mel when you said the groom made it wrapped in bubble wrap I thought you meant the actual groom lol
My lemon Maderia has lemon curd buttercream filling and us covered in white choc lemon ganache which is OMG yum
Maisie hope the house is drying out.
I've ended up decorating my lemon cake just cos I felt like having a play. Parts are drying now so I'll stick it together later :)

Siany, I love lemon cake too. But not the Madeira unfortunately. Mich Turners cake is fabulous too! :-)
Bashini I had a load of lemon ganache needed to be used as my lemon mud went so very wrong so I just got this one together quickly, I am not a bug fan of Maderia as it tastes very floury to me, though this one will punch you in the face with lemon :)
Do you have the much turner recipe? Want to find a good one.

Fantastic cakes Bashini, Mel, Marvel! I guess vases are now very popular? Argh? Why? They look like they make cakes so unstable! They look great though especially with the flowers inside them. The colours on all your cakes are really lovely.
Marvel when are you going to be transporting the cake?
I've never made madeira, though I'd like to try just to see for myself what it's like. My mudcake was a bit dry. I wonder if its because the first time I made it I used buttermilk rather than sour cream, only because I didn't have sour cream. I used Lindy's choc mud cake recipe. I'll try using buttermilk again next time and see if it's more moist than when using sour cream.

I've never made Madeira cake either jean, I've never liked anyone else's so I've no reason to think I'd like my own. I use lindys mud cake recipe too, do you take yours out when the skewer comes out clean? I take mine out when there are a few crumbs on the skewer, I read that somewhere and it made a difference. My mud cakes weren't dry before, they were just more moist when I did that. Maybe it's worth a try. Did yours crack and split? I tried the skewer thing in the hope they wouldn't crack and split but they always do. My mam's made me bake even strips out of an old towel so I 'm going to try that next time. Was it you who told me your mam made you some?

I could kill my husband. Done my tappits (cheap version) which take forever, just about to go to bed, left the letters on my silicone sheet whilst I tidied up, he walks out to the kitchen silicone sheet dangling from his hand!! My first words? What the $@#$& have you done? Have had to sit up for another hour redoing as they obviously ended up all over the floor when he 'helped' clean up. Sent him to bed with a flea in his ear haha.
ABlimey Siany I saw your post and was going to ask you why you're still up at this time. Poor you and poor Mr Siany. I know you probably haven't got much sympathy for him but try to remember he was trying to help. Bless him! Is there any way he can make it up to you? An agbay maybe?! ;-) I'm off to bed now, G'nite all.

For the wedding tiers how do you get the height in them? Are the four inches? Is it three large layers, or do you put a cake drum under each one?
Also for covering the board and a cake dummy, do you harden the fondant with a bit of tylose first so it will set hard, or is it just plain fondant?

For the bottom tier, I used a 12" square and had to bake it in two halves. Because of that it is nearly 5" tall. The other two are 4" tall. I always use a 3mm thick cake board under cakes. When I start cutting the cakes, I use my Agbay to get the correct height and cut all at the same time. Then you get all of them the same height. Let me know if it doesn't make any seance to you. Will try to explain a bit more. And for the board and the dummy, use just SP.

AThanks Bashini, that makes perfect sense. 5" tall......well jealous!! When I have measured my birthday cakes they keep coming up as three inches. I blame it on my lack of an Agbay :D

AI am planning to make a doc mcstuffins cake for my daughter next month and I was thinking of trying to make a bag cake (so it could be her doc bag) but was wondering if you guys could recommend what colours to use (I use sugar flair) if you google it you can see what shade of purple and pink it is (I am crap with describing colours lol)
AHi chezzabelle, you'll love it on here, lovely gang they all are, some very funny ones too!.
I can only go on what I use mostly which I the rainbow dust progels, they are very concentrated, I have the pink and purple, lovely colours.
AChezzabelle, you can get them from Amazon, they do packages of 3 also, single tubes are about £2.85, ish.
AJust a tip for you chezzabelle, stick with this thread, so helpful and alot of pro's on here!
AA women on one of the Facebook groups I'm in has just been served by Disney, she is being sued for 3 grand over two cakes. She got reported to them by a disgruntled customer
AChezzabelle, I don't colour my paste. Too much work, so buy ready coloured. M&B has gorgeous colours.
Siany, you can make Disney characters for your selves. Not to sell.

ANewstreet, 5" because I bake two halves and put them together. Other cake comes 3"- 4" tall. :-)
AChezbell you can make it as long as you don't sell it, disney sell cake pans for home use so that's absolutely fine.
She is in America, based in Texas.
APhew I prob won't be using a cake pan as just wanna try doing a handbag 3d cake and do it the same colours as mcstuffins bag

Thanks for the lovely comments guys, I was so relieved it all went to plan in the end lol! I loved the cat too Maisie, we have a ginger cat too so I'm biased :) I was so pleased with the bride and groom though, if anyone's interested I used the Anneliese van Tessel head mould and eyes - they were fab! I wasn't going to get them but I'm so glad I did as it saved me hours of redoing faces, I'm no good at getting eyes right on figures!
Jean, I know re glass vases! I was so worried about this one, but actually it was the same as using a poly dummy really, made sure the base was level and doweled then stuck it on top. Cats mums tip for securing the top cake was brilliant too - it just 'clicked' into place!

Newstreet, thanks! Mine are all about 4" tall. For my top 2 tiers (carrot & choc fudge) I bake a single v deep cake, then tort into 3 layers and fill. For the bottom 2 (lemon & vanilla sponges) I bake 2 cakes for each one, then torted each into 2, making 4 layers total per cake. I find visually bigger cakes need to be a little deeper or they look a bit odd, but that's just me! I place every cake on a cake drum too for a bit more height. I just used regular SP for the board, but I have added gum trag on occasion when I've needed it to firm up quicker.
Wow Siany that's a big fine! I've heard of people getting cease & desist letters before, but a fine seems a bit harsh. This is way I won't sell copyright cakes though, you never know who's going to notice and I just would want anything like that to happen!
Hi Chezzabelle, Siany is right, you can make copyright cakes for personal use :smile: I use Sugarflair and Progel and they are both really good. Good luck with the cake!
