In case you were wondering, yes a 10 year old Agbay can still slice through your thumb as well as the day you bought it!!!!

Nothing too bad, fortunately.  A plaster has done the trick!

Remember I was scared about my chocolate cigarellos in the heat and I said they were ok?  Well, there is a very, very slightly bloom on them, but only the tiniest bit and hopefully once the cake is decorated, she'll be looking more at the top than the sides!!

Hi all, well as you probably guessed all went to pot. I am having 4-5 attacks a day with little rest :-( Just taken a fresh delivery of two new oxygen cylinders so feel a bit more relaxed as i was panicky at the thought of running out! Lucky for me my gp and o2 people know how urgent it is.

This is also my busy period for cakes so it couldn't have come at a worse time...so in between hours of pain I am trying my best to get the orders out. I'm so behind its not even funny  but I will be blowed if i am gonna let this beast destroy my new business :x

Just finished this one by the skin of my teeth and now have a sugar shoe to do and hundreds of lego men!

Kelsey im so sorry I cant come to the course, apart from being behind with work i just cant risk the drive as i dont have a portable cannister :(...gutted is not the word! I hope you still mange to go and I look forward to hearing all about it.

AOh and forgot to mention that a supplier completely let me down on my seperator, and it's not got a top lip/plate on it, so I've no idea how I'm going to secure the cake above to it safely.......!!

Has anyone used a clear seperator before? It's a 4" round, sitting between a 6" and an 8" cake. I've got a 5"drum to go on top of the 8" cake (under the seperator) which will have dowels under, but without the top plate, how do I stick the base of the 6" cake to the top of the 4" tube, which is essentially just a thin acrylic lip, like the top of a vase?

Tiddy so sorry to hear you are suffering so much, I'm glad the doctor sorted your oxygen out for you, such a shame you have to miss you course but your health has to come first . I hope you get back on top with your cake and manage to get some pain free time thinking of you and sending BIG HUGS take care x

I always thought an agbay was just a really expensive leveller but it sounds really good I'm thinking I need one now :D Fat chance at that price though maybe down the line. How big does it actually cut up to a 12" cake?

Relznik hope you thumb is ok now. You have never had to replace the blade on your agbay then?

AYou can get one that does upto 20 inch Roxy.

Tiddy sorry you are suffering :(

My lemon (stodgy soggy) mud cake is in the bin. Don't like it and won't try it again. I'm going to make a lemon Maderia tomorrow. That should make me happy :)

Mel not sure If I'm getting this correctly but when I used the vase as separators on my last wedding cake, DH stuck a drum which was just slightly bigger than the vase onto the drum above (centred of course.) He cut a groove into this small drum which was tight enough to secure the vase into but not so tight it would be hard for the organisers to lift the tier off to serve.

ACatsmum you are a genius! That's a great idea, I'd never have come up with that! Can I be a pain and ask what glue he used, and what he cut the drum with?

Hope everyone else is ok, BTW, sorry for the rant earlier! Hopefully I'll be able to catch up properly at the weekend once this darn cake is out the way....!

AOh and also, sorry to hear about your cat, hope he's ok! Our cat is HyperT with liver issues as well so I know exactly how it feels. She was diagnosed about 5 years ago (she's about 18 now), and we've had ups and downs with it all but she's still here and as fussy and demanding as ever LOL!

Sorry Tiddy I forgot to say earlier how great your cake is but I also don't know who it is, you have to enlighten me.

Mel Sorry also forgot to say I'm sorry to her your mum is back in hospital I hope she is well soon. Hope your cake goes well.

Siany glad to hear your little boy is doing better now, your cones look good I have looked at them a few times but thought the cone would be to dry to eat after being in the oven even though you wrap them in foil to cook them, let me know please if this is the case.

AI didn't wrap them in foil and I don't think they are dry, I struggle with the buttercream as it makes me feel sick so the cake come combo was a nice change from the sickly icing. Next time I'll top with Italian meringue

AHi everyone,

Mel, sorry to hear about your mum. Hope all goes well with the op.

Mel, I also doing a cake with acrylic vases as separators. I did think about what catsmum did for the cake but i am just going to keep each tier on top of the vases. And the vases will be on 6" drums. Fingers crossed!! :)

All my cakes are ganached but it's not firming, so they will go in the fridge one by one before sugar pasting!

Tiddy, sorry you are still in pain. And your cake looks great as always,

Tiddy - I'm so sorry...  I've missed the posts about you not being well.  I hope you're ok.

Roxy - nope.  I've never replaced it!  It's my most prized cake making piece of equipment!  Worth every penny.  If I had to replace it, I still wouldn't get the double bladed model; it's so quick and easy to use, I don't see the point in paying extra.

Siany - I made ice cream cone cupcakes at the summer fair last week...  I thought they'd go down well with children, but 99% of them were bought by adults! :D

Right...  back to the cake!

Suzanne x

AJust catching up but bound to have missed loads as am on my phone --- yayy! No porn (for those who don't know I was getting diverted to a porn site! My son sorted it out - something to do with having a second tab open. ...who knows? ). Bought the Pretty Witty membership - in the end. Got a year's membership and am happy with it. Sorry can't remember who mentioned it but we didn't bake our cornets in foil either and they weren't overdone. DD said that they took a bit longer than normal cupcakes. Kathy

It says in my book to wrap them in foil but if both of you didn't I guess you don't really have to, I might give them a try one day one day something a bit different.

I have just signed up for the trial on pretty witty cakes for £1 so gonna watch some videos over the next few days see what it's like.
