My niece is turning 2 in April and I'm making her a cake for a Mickey Mouse themed party. I've been dying to do something feminine and delicate as I've not done anything like that in MONTHS! So I asked her mom if she thought Minnie would be okay. Of course she said Jessie gets most excited about Mickey Mouse so maybe both. ARGH!!! It's one thing to make 1 mouse. But to make 2 mice and try and make them the same size, with the same face, and all the same details... What a challenge!
Mickey's head turned out a bit bigger than Minnie's. Everywhere you see these two mice together, they are the same size. Now... for the sake of a 2 year old, what difference does it make! BUT... I'm also trying to build a portfolio and this will reflect on my skills.... So... here's a photo... sorry it's heads only. They have a lot of drying to do before I even try to put them on a body.
Would you make Mickey's head smaller or Minnie's head bigger? And do you have any constructive criticism for these guys?
The party isn't till April 4th so I have some wiggle room.
I think they are great, and boys are supposed to be masculine anyway right! So, a little bit bigger is fine.
I think they look amazing! Great job! Honestly women are always a bit smaller than men, I think the very slight size diff makes minnie look feminine. Really great job!
I can't tell you how glad I am to read that. It took me about an hour per head. (Insane huh!) And I really didn't want to have to do one over again.
I agree with the others, it makes Mickey look more masculine, that he is a little bigger. When it comes to the portfolio, it should be fine. As cake decorators we are going to notice our mistakes more and it is going to be 90% more noticable to our eyes than to others. You did a great job.
These are GREAT and I agree with the others Mickey looks more masculine the way he is. Now, in HUMANS the male skeleton weighs MORE than the female. I don't know about the RODENT kingdom.....just in case someone asks you WHY Mickey is bigger! BWAHAHAHAHA! Like that is even going to happen! LOL
You are a COOL Auntie!

They look amazing!!! I agree with the other posters, it makes Minnie look more feminine and I love it! You OBVIOUSLY did that on purpose!
Thay look positively fantabulous. Thay are so cute and should look great in your portfolio.
They look wonderful. If the difference in size bothers you, don't put them side by side on the cake.
Don't beat yourself up, I own the rights to that.
I think they look wonderful! I wish I could do figures like this. What do you use for them? For my nephews bday, I used fondant for scooby doo and it looked good before I went to bed, and when I woke up It looked like a blob.
ok, we really need a tutorial on these! I could not even begin to figure this out. We are real Disnyphiles here and I would LOVE to make this sort of cake for my son. He loves Mickey and Minney. Oh please share with us! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

ha ha ha A TUTORIAL??? I couldn't even duplicate the same thing 2x's. My mom said today that Mickey has too much flesh tone on his face and I should have made that part smaller. I agree with her BUT...
I should have taken photos of the steps.
Tell you what... Mickey and Minnie ARE supposed to be next to each other on the top of the cake. If his size and too much flesh bother me enough, I'll make another and take pictures this time.
I never thought I could do it to begin with let alone show someone else how. Live and learn....
By the way, thank you all for your encouragement and kind words. You put a smile on my face!
These figures are amazing as they are! And I think that their sizes are perfect! Even if they are side by side on the cake. As others have pointed out, Minnie looks more feminine. Also, her bow compensates for smaller size. Keep up the excellent work! I can only aspire to create figures as well as you! Inspiring!
Wow!! They look absolutely amazing. I think it's ok that mickey is a little bigger, after all he's a boy! Just me. hope we get to see the final product.

Ditto on this one!
Wow! Those are SCARY good!! You should send pics to Disney (careful how you word it, you know how unbelievably touchy they can be about copyrights) but MAN I bet they would LOVE to get their hands on you!! True Disney artist that you are! You could be their new, hot Executive Disney Sugar Artist. Oh...can I be your agent??? Ok,...ok can I at least stand next to you for a while and pretend I know you?
Let's face it... the male of the species (any species) tends to get a big head.
They are wonderful!!! Don't change a thing.
I think you are smokin' sumpin' if you remake those incredible amazing figures.
I'm with you on that one Sharon!
Shill once again your work amazes me, if only I could borrow your hands. An hour you say??? It probably takes me that long to get a smooth round ball
They turned out awesome!! Mickey should be bigger anyway because he is the star of the show, think of if that way!!..
The cake is done. Party is tomorrow at 4. I can't wait till she see's it.
I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out but... because I decided to put Mickey and Minnie in front of the cake rather than on top... should I put a matching ribbon around the board they are standing on too? Or does it not matter?
Thanks guys!

I just left you a comment...I love it! The only reason I would add a ribbon to the bottom is because I really like the ribbon you went with. It's beautiful without it though too!
OMG...they are amazing...really truly cute!!
And I thought I was too hard on myself and way too picky lol...you're a worse self-critic than me because they are perfect!
Im soooo jealous, i had the same problem, i just wanted to do minnie but the customer wanted both - yours are waaay better, they actualy look like china ornaments whereas mine in my profile were a lot rougher - you did a brilliant job, the whole cake is great - love the colours
