I don't know how you plan to use the popcorn in a cake, but when I did my pop corn cake (see cake link) I use mini marshmellows, I cut them with a sissor from one side with a cross cut, them I spray them with wilton's spray edible paint.

I hope this helps you.

I too used mini marshmallows when I made my popcorn cupcakes, but I didn't put any butter on mine. Using marshmallows is really easy, but time consuming. I'm sure making them out of fondant would be more time consuming since you would have to make each little popcorn. icon_smile.gif

the confetti cakes book by Elisa Strauss has a popcorn cake and she makes the popcorn from gum paste. I have the book so I can pm you the instructions if you like as I can scan them. Let me know!

I have that book too, isn't it beautiful? By the way, welcome to CC!
Another great book is pretty party cakes by Peggy Porsechen, it has some beautiful cakes and cookies in it. I haven't made anything from it yet, but will one day soon. icon_smile.gif

Thank you guys so much! This is the most amazing site. I just started making cakes 3 months ago .. I decided to give it a try for my daughter`s first birthday and I have been addicted ever since ... I have been making them as "gifts" but I really want to start selling them for money...

Coating with white chocolate is a neat idea. Any tips on how to do the coating on the popcorn?

All I did was melt the candy melts in the microwave, and poured it directly on the popcorn.... I just kept stirring so it wouldn't stick, then spread it on some waxed paper to dry, broke up any pieces that stuck together, and just put them on the top of the cake... I piled it up pretty well on the cake, and I think it made it look more realistic...... I'm happy to say there was a lot left over...... but only for a short time ! icon_lol.gif
