I am searching online and I can't find any help, can anyone help me? I'm in the middle of making my flowers, which are turning out nicely, and I can't seem to figure out how to wire them. I don't have internet at home so I'm just at the library for a bit, trying to find some info but not having any luck. TIA!

It depends on what type of flowers you are wiring. They offer nice fabric covered tape, which will adhere better. If you don't have that, use regular wire ( I use floral, not sure which guage but you want it to be strong enough to support the weight of the fondant/gumpaste) and cover with floral tape,. which is cheap, cheap, cheap.

Then, you take jewelry pliers (or whatever you have ) and bend the tip over so it looks like a mini shepards hook. Use a touch of glue and attach your buds or centers and then let them set up overnight so they don't change shape as you are applying your petals.

With leaves, you can do the same (without the hook) and slip into the thickest part of the base of the leaves..... is this making any sense at all, lol?

Also, does your library offer any books on sugar flowers? Because ours does and it is even more helpful then the videos since you can go at your own pace and they usually show the steps and angle of each flower, etc. Good luck.

yes! thank you so much! i wasn't making a base, just trying to attach the flowers to the wire...

try heating the tip of the wire first over a candle.. then insert into the flower it will pretty much set on it straight away as the sugar in the icing melts round the wire...

But next time it is ideal to make the centres etc beforehand with the wires in them ready for the next stages...

I was able to get some of my flowers wired last night when I went home, and while they are probably not done perfectly or the ideal way, they are actually turning out ok, for my first time! Now I just hope the rest of the cake turns out... I'm attempting to make a flower pot cake for my Mom's birthday. I will post a pic when I'm done. Thanks again!!
