Ribbon Around Cupcakes....okay, How Do I Do It????? Help!
Baking By lvspaisley Updated 3 Mar 2009 , 2:25pm by lvspaisley
I am working on a practice run of baby shower cupcakes. I am having a TERRIBLE time getting the ribbon around it that I want to use. It is sheer, no wire and maybe 1/4 inch wide. I really want to use this as I think it dresses it up so much. I used standard cupcake liners, the ones with pleats. I keep trying to tie it around but it's not working!! HELP???
Please, I beg you I need to send pictures to the girl ASAP
Kristi
There is a "Make Your own Cupcake Wrapper" thread where someone used cardstock and poked holes in it to thread ribbon through. You could try that. I don't know otherwise. Ribbon is hard to work with on a smooth pefectly flat surface. I imagine it would be kind of hard to do on a cupcake. Goodluck!
To keep the icing from bleeding into the ribbon I put some scotch tape on the backside and then wrap it around the cake. It's easier if you have another helping hand. One person to hold the ribbon on one end while you wrap around the cake until the ends meet. I use tape on the underside to sick them together.
Hope that makes sense.
Why is it not working?
If it's sliding off, try hot gluing the ribbon -just a dot at the back- and then tying. It will also help if you have a "helper"-you know, the "put your finger here while I tie the bow", kind of helper.
But the doilie cupcake wrappers are really cute, too if you want to try those. You just cut the lacy part from around the doilie and wrap it around the cupcake paper, taping at the back, the baking cup is the bottom-the doilie forms a kind of sleeve.

Good luck!
Thanks for all of your replies. I wondered about getting some of those nut cups to do these cupcakes in, thinking if it was the same, straight up and down, from the bottom of the cupcake to the top instead of at an angle..do you think that would work better?
Also, I will try the hot glue. I will need a lot of help I think with these ribbons LOL
Keep sending suggestions
Oh, and where do I get doilie cupcake holders?
Thanks!

Ooooh - glad i saw this thread.
I just posted a thread about the Silverwood mini sqaure pan that i am buying so as to do 75 mini square cakes in September AND the little cakes are to have ribbon around the base.
My little cakes have to be covered in regalice/fondat so i am thinking that that will help me when adhering the ribbon.
I have spoken to the Bride to be and asked what is appropriate for me to secure the ribbon?
She said i could use whatever is the easiest - i was thinking of a tiny dab of glue.
Might have a scout around for some black tape actually.
Are you not having any luck using sticky tape lvspaisley ?
I am wondering how it is all going for you.
Fingers crossed that it is *working for you*
Can't wait to see your picture when finished.

Kristi, they are just the flat paper doilies, you cut the lace part off and use it to -make-the holder. Here is the link...

the template using a 10" doilie
I did baby shower cupcakes with ribbon on them. My Mom was cursing me because it was a fiddly project.
We did use a glue gun. Careful of the glue strings that can form. We also used the Wilton silver cupcake liners which are nice and thick.
We had trouble getting a bow so we just crossed the ribbon in the front. It really did dress them up.
I wish I had a picture - but was so tired I forgot
Hello All!
Thanks for your replies!!
The link for the doily template did not work Could you post it again?
Also, I bought a glue gun today and tried to do a ribbon, BUT the paper liners are pulling away from the cupcakes!!!!! I don't understand I think I am going to use nut cups....what do you guys think about those?? Do you use those the same as you would a paper liner (in terms of baking, etc).
I did buy glue dots, but they keep sticking to ME instead LOL Ah well, I'll post pictures as soon as I get them done on Friday.
Wish me luck and let me know what you think about the nut cup idea (the big ones, cupcake size).
Also, um, what do you mean you crossed it in the front?!

Ribbon around a cupcake sounds like a losing proposition. Could you just make the little bows from the ribbon and put them on the front with a glue dot instead of trying to wrap the ribbon all the way around? I think the straight up and down nut cups would be much easier to wrap, and they're smoother than the accordian fold cupcake papers so there's more surface for your glue to stick to.
Anyone else? Do you bake those on a cookie sheet? They won't fit in a muffin tin, will they?
What about double-sided tape around the ribbon, except for the part that you'd tie for a bow? Just a thought...I haven't tried it, but I might next time I think I want ribbon around a cupcake! At the very least, I'll try the hot glue suggestion!
Also, um, what do you mean you crossed it in the front?!

We wrapped the ribbon around the cupcake liner and crossed the ribbon in the front and left 2 little tails hanging down. When I talk to my mom tomorrow I'll ask if she got a picture.
I tried wrapping ribbon around nut cups last week, it proved just as hard.
I would definitely try hot glue. If you want a bow, I would probably suggest tying the bow separately and hot-gluing it onto a ribbon that you have attached to the cupcake. They'll be separate pieces but look like one continuous piece. Good luck!

Sorry, I can't get it to work now either . If you go to Galleries>Misc>Templates, Sketches and Patterns that's where I got it...I looked for a minute just now to just try to copy and paste the whole pic for you, but can't find it-my old eyes need sleep .
