If you do something like that, your cake will be the first one chosen! They love anything different at school events. Most of the cakes at my kids' schools cakewalks are straight from the grocery store.
I think that something cool like spagetti would be great!
I did a open gift box when I donated one. I was thinking that they someone could just eat it or if they had a birthday coming up a package cake works for anyone.
Anything different will be a hit!

A cake walk is a game that is done at carnivals. There are numbers placed on the ground in a circle, The music plays people walk around the circle, when the music stops everyone stands on a number. The "caller" draws a number from the hat. Who ever is standing on the number drawn wins a cake of their choice from the cake table, and yes it is generally a fundraiser, but it can be a fun party game for kids too! One year we did a carnival theme birthday party for my daughter. I made cupcakes and decorated them each with a different plastic party favor ring. We did a cakewalk and each little girl chose the ring/cupcake of their choice. Once you won, you sat at the table until all had their cupcake
I'll give the 'cakewalk' definition a wack.
they put numbers down in a circle. kids walk around the numbers while music is playing. stop when the music stops, and someone picks a number to win. --like musical chairs. the winner picks a cake off a table of donations.
I just donated a basket of spring cookies to the charity auction. all the leftover cookies I put in a small box for the cake walk. I was told by a friend that there was a tiny friendly fight over my cookies 
To be honest i wouldn't even bother going through that much trouble for a cake walk. My son's school has this all the time at the summer fun fair and I would say 95% of the cakes are grocery store cakes. They are definitely not fancy at all. Like the other poster said, yours would be the first chosen for sure. I've seen the kids, mainly teens, play the game win a cake, grab five forks and eat the whole thing right there in the gym. Not caring about the design at all. I would save my time and go buy a coffee cake or something at the grocery store. JMO.

My local town Vol. fire dept. Has an annual cake walk and auction. I donate about five cake every year. I do a filled, a choc. ganche,a regular cake, and two fancy extreme decorated to auction. I live in a very rural area and when they see these fancy decorated they go crazy.
The fire dept. appriciates the donations They make lots$$. I get to advertise I ususally gain new customers. Good luck its fun.
Our school has a Fall Fest every year in October, this past year there was a cake walk and a cupcake walk. I made some popcorn cupcakes and everybody loved them, they were fun to make, but time consuming. Like sweetcravings said, most everybody brings things from the grocery store.
Our school does their cake walk a little differently...99% of the cakes are home-made BTW! The cakes are placed on tables in the gym with numbered bags in front of them. The kids buy 25 cent tickets and place their tickets in the bags for the cakes that they want to win.
Once all of the classes have had a chance to go through, the winning tickets are drawn and announced over the PA system (this takes all day - it's a big event, and the kids LOVE it!).
If the kids win a cake, they go to the gym at the end of the day and pick it up - the school makes hundreds of dollars on this event, and I think about 300 cakes were donated last year!
Our school JUST had their cake walk. I did a fancy lil number and found out that they saved mine for the very last! Kind of a grand prize. Most of the cakes and cookies donated were store bought or your run of the mill chocolate chip cookies. For me it was hearing all the oohhh's and aahhh's when people saw my cake! I think a spaghetti cake would be great for the cake walk!
I wish our school would have such respect for the effort it takes to make a special cake. One year i was planning to make a cake for the cake walk (when my son was in JK) and unfortunatley didn't have time to bake it. When i brought some other stuff in for the bakesale, i noticed a tonne of cakes bunched together on the gym stage. People were just dumping them off, no one was there to make sure stuff didn't get crushed.. I remember thinking how happy i was that i didn't waste my time making something special when they just bunch em' together. They are not displayed. The people who win just jump on the stage and randomly pick which cake they want.
If i were to make a special cake it would be for a bakesale, at least then they would make a little money off it, to make it worth my time. I hate donating great stuff and it gets treated like all the store bought stuff. My time is important to me. I do love when my baked goods are received well, but honestly with this type of 'game' in my mind cake is cake, by something and use the saved time for something special. JMHO
