I had a dream (which I often do) about a new cake combo of flavors that I would like to try.

The cake in my dream sort of goes like this:

Basic moist yellow cake with just a touch of orange extract.
Filling will be apricot preserves (possibly folded with cream).
Frosted with Southern Comfort (the alcohol) buttercream.

I was wondering. Is is safe to reduce the Southern Comfort on the stove top in a sauce pan on a slow simmer?

Don't know if you can reduce it all the way down to a sauce but yes, you can if you keep it down on a slow simmer.

I think that if you didn't mix it with something else to reduce it, it would either evaporate or catch on fire. Depending on which bc recipe you'd be using it to flavor, you could prolly mix it with one of the other ingredients, maybe flour or a tiny bit of corn starch, and that might work. You could try it anyway.
