I had lots of lovely compliments on my Easter Chicks made with Cadburys Creme Eggs and I was asked to share how I made them...so here are some instructions. Hope they are clear enough! I'd love you to share your pictures if you do decide to try these.
In advance make a ball of yellow fondant for the head and press 2 eye holes using the end of a paintbrush. Set aside to dry, this stops it misshaping when decorating it later. As a guide, the heads in the picture weigh 12g and I leave them overnight.
Also in advance, prepare the base by cutting out a frill shape with a cutter from white fondant and stick it to a 4 inch card with edible glue, thick enough for the crème egg to sink in a little. Press your crème egg into the base, dabbing some edible glue on the base.
Make 2 feet from orange fondant, flattening them as you press them into place and use a knife to press 3 little lines for webbed feet.
Using yellow fondant and a frilled cutter for the body (I used a 3 inch cutter). Attach 2 layers using edible glue in between. Gently pull out the left and right edges slightly to look like wings and the back to look like the tail.
Before attaching the head, press 2 balls of black fondant into the eye holes with edible glue.
Make a triangle from orange icing for the beak and attach with edible glue.
For the boy chick
Make a sausage shape of orange fondant for the hair and once attached, either snip with scissors or slice with a knife several times to form the spiky hair.
For the bow tie, make a rectangle of red fondant and squeeze in the middle and flatten, glue on small dots of yellow fondant for pattern.
For the girl chick
Cut a circle of pink fondant and squeeze around the edges to soften, this makes the base of the hat. Make a smaller, thicker circle for the top of the hat and attach with glue.
I used a blossom plunger cutter for the white fondant flowers and attached a small yellow ball of fondant to the centre of each flower.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the instructions!!! I'll definately be trying these out this year, they're just too cute not to!
love them, love them, love them....can't wait to try them for myself..
Thanks for posting the details and picture.
Thanks for the tutorial. I already had the pic in my favs and was gonna try to WING IT! lol. (couldn't resist)
You are so good to share - I already added this to Faves, so glad I have directions now!!
thank you so very much for posting this.
I've spent so much time studying your pic trying to figure it out
You are so generous to share.
So I am trying to overcome my time management issue (see other thread LOL!) and I have to ask - it is really not too soon to start Easter projects? These are so darn cute, so I guess I could really make a few of these to have on hand for Easter now huh? I don't have to be up the night before trying to make these AND hide the eggs for the egg hunt AND fill the Easter baskets?
I'd say as long as you keep what you make in an air tight container once they have dried, you can make them in advance.
I was the same...up til midnight in a huge rush! As cute as they are, I was glad to see the back of them after making so many.
Good luck

Awwwww, those are the cutest!!. Thanks for the great, easy to understand instructions.
i just saved your pic from "home" page... too happy to see your instructions here, thanks eatdessert1st for sharing it =)
Thanks so much I am going to try and get some of these made for my family if I finish all the other Easter Projects I have started.
Thank you! They are fun to make, but depending on the number of chicks you're going to make, they do require time and patience. I couldn't find the cardboard circles ready-made, nor did I have the time to cut them myself, so I bought aluminum ashtrays from the Dollar Store and placed a fondant circle on top of them. I also did not have edible glue, and I used clear gel (edible gel). That created a problem with the heads, not all of them would stay put .
Mosinoi, if you don't have the time to make royal icing (edible glue), you can thin down your fondant with vodka or clear vanilla or water (water takes the longest to dry), and then you won't have the same glueing problems. HTH
Mosinoi, your chicks are lovely!! Glad you found the instructions ok
I've just made them all over again for this Easter, I found it so much easier because I knew what I was doing right from the start this time. It was a bit more of 'trial and error' the first time round!!

I am going to try these tomorrow but I wondered what is the purpose of the 4 inch card? Is it stability? or will the dried circle of white fondant suffice?
I plan on wrapping each up in a plastic bag (don't know if that's relevant)
thanks for your help
Oh my gosh! Thanks for sharing! Your little duckies are to die for! I saw them a while ago and put it in my favorites!
