I am successful and flooding small cookies. I was doing some large cookies and they just don't have that smooth flawless finish. I also usually flood using a plastic bottle. This time I used a decorator bag. Can large cookies look smooth like small cookies? If so, what am I doing wrong? Thanks...Deb
I always use a bottle to flood with. Last night I flooded a large bunny rabbit and at first I didn't think it looked too smooth so I took a paintbrush and swooshed back and forth and that helped it smooth out better. On the next one, I would flood a little with the bottle and then swoosh with the brush and by the time I was finished it was all smooth. I think it can be done you will just have to find a method that works for you.
My thoughts: How large is large What recipe are you using for the flooding?
I guess one would have to work as quickly as possible, then when it is filled, tap it on the counter a couple of times to smooth out the icing?
I've flooded large cookies before and they came out smooth. Sounds like you might need to thin the icing a little. I like antonia's recipe a lot. I've done big teddy bears and flowers using this recipe and they came out great...cookies were probably 5-6 inches across.
I usually make parchment bags for flooding but plastic disposable would work the same - using no tip. Depending on the area needing coverage, I cut the opening in the bag accordingly - large area = large cut opening, tiny area = tiny cut opening. If there are both, I'll do the tiny areas first then cut the opening larger for the larger area.
I just flooded a large cookie that is 6 inches tall and about 4 1/2 inches wide. I thinned by RI a little more than usual and it spread out so nicely and ended up very smooth. Thanks for the ideas!
It must be the product I am using because I can get great results with thinned RI. I am using a commercial product that is thinned by heating up...and NOT by adding water. I just need to ask my co-workers. I wanted to get a heads up here first from the cookie experts so I didn't sound like an idiot. Thanks guys!
