First off Congratulations to you both on setting the date!

Please count me in on whatever you guys plan on doing, I'd be more than happy to help but will definitely need instructions/tutorial as I've never worked with blown sugar. Also if you decide to go with an alternate medium perhaps instructions could be made for those as well so if anyone that is still new to this art can still participate.

Sounds like we need to get the food network involved to fig out who will get to bake the cake!!!! I would love to do a piece for your cake just let me know where to send it and with the how to will be avail... June is not that far away and I need time to try this out lol. !!!

Just a suggestion....there is a food safe dessicant (sp?) that is sold by Geradldine Randlsome. Would this work to keep the blown sugar pieces drier so able to be shipped and saved?

Wow..si gorgeous..I do think is going to be a tough one shipping blown sugar and it maintaining shape. Humidity does affect it. it cracks an breaks.. Im not a master on the subject, but I would love to know if someone could give us more info on the subject. I live in Florida and humidity does affect the sugar a lot.
Just dont kill me for saying this..

On the other hand, with as many people as you have in CC..might as well make a Christmas tree and hang all the pieces cause I think you will have lots of people sending you stuff!

Xstitcher, the green one's my fave too !! They're actually pretty easy to make.
We did these in class using balloons ( on those sticks you use for helium balloons,so you can let the air out later )
You make up a batch ( or more depending on how many colours you want ) of gelatine in a bowl - mix in the colour ( my green is a pearlised green ) & you need to keep it warm( we used an electric frypan with water ) - too hot & it's too runny, too cold & it's too thick to coat the balloon.
You swirl the balloon around in the bowl a few times until it's coated with the gelatine ( takes a few goes to get it smooth & bubble free !! )
Let it set for 1 -2 days before deflating & removing the balloon icon_smile.gif

I hope I've explained it clearly !

I love the chandelier and can't wait to see the final result. I know nothing about blown glass but will eagerly watch to see how this unfolds. I hope someone comes up with a great idea to pull it off. It is just an awesome idea.

Oh how exciting and wondeful! I can't believe you want to include all of us...do you know what your getting into??? icon_wink.gif I think your going to need more then 10 tiers just to include everyone! Congrats BTW...Marriage is AWESOME!!!
I'm willing to try anything and would love to a be a part of it, if its blown or pulled sugar I will need the tutorial too.

I can't wait to see how this all turns out!

Dave Chihuly does SPECTACULAR work. I actually had the opportunity to meet him about 8 or 9 years ago here in Columbus, OH. He donated work to both to our museum and conservatory...they are truly, truly lovely. His paintings are truly amazing too...I thought that sketching out a cake and making it a reality was really something, but his stuff is off the charts.

I don't know if I'll manage to make anything that won't break, but I've been wanting to try my hand at blown sugar.
