Sculpted Puppy/dog Cake Instructions
Decorating By mamabaer Updated 13 Feb 2012 , 10:16am by Honeybees
I have searched this site top to bottom and though I find a million references to people finding and using the tutorial on making the puppy/dog cakes, I cannot find the tutorial itself. Was hoping to make this for my daughters first birthday on Sunday and I need help! Anyone know where I can find this? maybe post me the link if you can...
Puppy Cake
Start with about 12 cups of batter (this will serve about 30 people-party size serving) and use the Wondermold pan and a 6 in round bake about 4 cups in the Wondermold and then 3 cups in the 6in round and then the other 5 cup in the Wondermold. The Larger Wondermold is used for the head and the smaller for the rump. The larger one can be cut to shape the head or you can just leave it in one piece and it works fine too. The 6in round is cut in half and used for the body and then cut into pieces for the paws. Then cover with regular buttercream and do the shaping of the little details. Then cover the whole thing with the grass tip (#233). Use fondant for the eyes, nose, and flowers or other details. Foam board or crushed foil can be shaped for the ears and tail (attach with a toothpick). Cookies can also be made to form the ears and tail. A chocolate egg half can be used for the nose and chocolate or cookies for the eyes. Hope the attachment worked.

Hi,
Here are two tutorials. I, unfortunately, do not remember who or where I got the second tutorial from. Hope they help!

When I made a 3D dog cake I used 1 9" round cake and put an 8" on top of it. For the head I used 2x6"rounds. I carved them into the basic dog shape then made legs a tail and the nose from RKT. To put the fur on it i piped buttercream stars and dragged a toothpick across the cake to make it look more realistic. Added black eyes a nose and collar and was done. It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.
