Ok, got an order on Tues (yesterday) for a cake on Fri. It will be a 2 layer 8" round cake w/a rose cascade. She said she wanted something colorful!! Didn't care what colors though.

I'm not sure what I had in mind....was kinda thinking using two-three diff. color roses w/a deep rich color tone. Well...had a little bit of a problem getting the colors to match what I had in mind!! icon_cry.gif

I was up late last night mixing....and mixing...and mixing...to get these awful colors. I've ran out of fondant....no time to go to store and plus they need time to dry. I HATE these colors together. Individually the colors aren't bad...but together they just don't 'flow'.

I tried using luster dust on a few hoping to pull the colors together. But don't think that helped.

Any ideas on what I can do to pull these colors together so they don't look so bad. She also wants the cake iced in Ital. merginue!! Was going to do an ivory color on the merginue. Would adding some small indv. flowers help kinda like fillers? But what color? White?? or use the colors I've used for these roses?

Please Help!! This will be my first cake order for someone other than friends/family and don't want to mess it up!!
Thanks,
Christine

Maybe eliminating the blue flowers and choosing just two of the others would look better to you.

Are you going to use any leaves? I think a light to medium green would help unify. Just a thought.

I think get rid of the blue and the pink ones. Keep the rest. They look really good together. The orange, cream, and yellow all have the same tones in them.

Very pretty flowers!! you did a great job!

I don't plan on using all of them...these are just the colors I've ended up with to chose from. But I'm having a hard time pulling two of the colors together.

If she hadn't said 'something colorful' I would just pick one of them and go w/it. But I was thinking of the Ivory and light orange...the two at the bottom of the picture. But not sure that will be enough color??

And I already have some light/med mixed leaves made up. Left over from my Wilton Wedding Cake.

I like your idea of using the ivory and the orange - by the time you add the green leaves, I think you'll have enough color. BTW - thumbs_up.gif

The ivory and orange with the green leaves sounds like a beautiful combination. I am sure your customer will be pleased.

I like the ivory and peach. The pink and blue don't seem to fit in (although they are really pretty by themselves.)

Just having those two colors is pretty colorful to me. I don't think one needs to have an entire rainbow to qualify as colorful.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up using the ivory and orangish-peach color w/a few yellow roses. The cake is in my photos. Overall, I think it turned out ok......but it was a hassle!! I also had problems w/the writing...for the life of me I can't write small!! And this was only and 8" cake.....and the roses took up a lot of the room. I really wanted to be able to write on it in BC.....but ended up having to use chocolate.

I delivered the cake yesterday and to my surprise she said she loved it!!! It was a surprise for her Mom and Dad and she said one of her mom's fav. colors was Peach!!!! I was like....HELLO!!! icon_surprised.gif that info would have saved me four days worth of ulcer meds b/c I was stressing out about theses darn colors!!! Told her just asking for "something colorful" leaves a lot of room for interpretation!!

Anyway
Thanks for the help and suggestions!! Love that YA'LL are so helpful and QUICK!!! thumbs_up.gif
