My DVD's came in yesterday afternoon - just in time to open the package and then have to put them down and walk out the door to go out to eat for Valentine's Day with our 4 year old granddaughter (and I look longingly at the DVD's stacked up on the table...)

Finally go to look at part of the Boxes and Bows DVD about 11:30 pm last night - couldn't wait - just had to have a look! Anyway, this morning after sending the granddaughter home and DH out the door to do whatever he wanted, I finally got some time to myself and had an all day marathon of cake decorating with Sharon!!! Woohoo...

I am absolutely in awe of Sharon and her techniques and I learned so much that I can't begin to thank her enough for taking the time to produce the DVD's. I purchased all 3 at the same time and this is the best money I have ever spent on cake decorating media - bar none. I love my books, but the DVD's are so hands on and in real time that I was able to absorb so many things that I can't wait to get out some stuff and start decorating!!!

Thank you, Sharon. I look forward to watching many more!

Hey Sharon with all those "out takes "
Do I see a blooper dvd in the works icon_lol.gificon_wink.gif
I have only had a chance to watch some of it but so far its AWESOME !! thumbs_up.gif

I never even realized i said "flip your lid" like that till you just mentioned it, LOL. Funny. I wanna flip my lid a a lot when doing cakes, HAHA

I keep saying I am going to put a blooper reel together just for fun and load it to my site. Have to go back and look at all the old tapes and put it together.

Maybe I will add a few bloopers at the end of the topsy turvy dvd dince that is kind of a wacky theme anyway. Think that's too unprefessional? Like after the credits?

ptanyer, I thank you for that wonderful review. I am humbled by your praise and kind words. I am thrilled that you are happy with them. I remember how I struggled in my early days ( and still do on some things), and I try to inlcude in them anything I can think of that will be helpful to keep the stress level down if posible for you guys.

Cake decoarting is not an easy skill to master. If I am helping a bit (and helping my KS cause) I am beyond thrilled.

Thank you again.

I also got my Boxes and Bows DVD yesterday. It was the best Valentines Day gift! I've already watched it twice and can't wait to play with my new claygun. I am in awe at how talented Sharon is, she is my cake guru!!! icon_smile.gif I will be a lifelong customer and I keep hoping that she will teach a class in Southern California one day so I can go! I can't wait for her Topsy Turvy DVD to come out!! Hurry, hurry, hurry!!! =)

I do have a couple of questions, maybe someone can help..maybe Sharon???? icon_wink.gif

How does Sharon get the "love" and "forever" words imprinted into her fondant that covers her boards? Are they stamps? That is so cute!

Do you disassemble the Valentines Box cake before serving?

How do you stack multiple box cakes in a tiered format? Do you put a dowel through all the tiers for stability? Would this damage the box lids?

I was also wondering what brand of gumpaste and tylose Sharon recommends?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us!

Those are those clear scrapbooking stamps u can get at craft stores. I am not sure if they are food safe, so I use them only on the boards at this time.

Do you disassemble the Valentines Box cake before serving?

I would not attempt that as it will destroy the cake. I would take all the goodies out the box and then just cut with a super sharp pointy tipped non serrated knife. It should cut thru the panels. There is no way a cake like this will cut without a bit of mess. It is just part of the deal, LOL

How do you stack multiple box cakes in a tiered format? Do you put a dowel through all the tiers for stability? Would this damage the box lids?

before you inseet your dowels into the 4 panels box top lid, vut a hole with your exacto knife in the lid for the dwel to go into. do not try to shove the dowel into the paneled lid, it will destroy it. stack your nexy cake on top and then put the center dowel thru before you assemble the top lid on the top cake. make the dowel tip very shrap and it will go thru the underneath lid fine. I have done it on many cakes. see the cakes at the end of the dvd that have stacked paneled lid cakes.

HTH and thank you!

Sharon I have all of your DVD's and love them! It is nice to be able to review a cake before I try it on my own. I have never been able to make a loop bow pretty but I am going to try again now that Iknow you can turn the loops a couple different ways and the accent loops to help it pop will be fun to try also. I do have a couple of questions for you though. You refer to gumpaste several times in the video is it pure gumpaste or 1/2 gumpaste, 1/2 fondant? The other question is do you use candy melts for your chocolate "glue"?
Thanks
Melissa

OOPS one more -
Are you selling the pasta roller if not what is the best type to get?

If I say gumpaste in the video I am using 100% gumpaste, but I am not opposed to 50/50. Totally up to you. I like pure gumpaste for the more delicate dressy bows cuz you can get it so thin and life like.

yes, candy melts for glue. the cheap stuff is fine for that.

I have the Atlas pasta roller from bed, bath and beyond.

HTH and thank you!!

Oh girls, you are making me want to put in an order! What would Dave Ramsey say? We are on his "beans and rice, rice and beans" plan. Ha Ha! I might just have to wait until my birthday in June. Sharon, I noticed you said it was for a limited time only. I hope you still have some! I need to add to my SugarEd DVD collection. icon_smile.gif

I agree with Wendy....talent oooozes out of those DVD's (and Sharon). I just finished watching the Box and Bowes DVD - I LOVE IT! Even though I took Sharon's class with one of the boxes and bow - I still learned more. I love all the pictures at the end - It shows you how many different ways you can incorporate all that you have learned in this DVD.

Sharon - I think you rocked this DVD. You packeted in so much information! Perfect add to my SugarEd collections. Can't wait for more.

OK, so I just got and watched my Fondant dvd and ... wow. I see where I've been going wrong all along! I love that Sharon showed how to 'fix' certain things and I also see that my 'perception' of what a 1/4" thinkness is, is far from the truth! (Maybe I should have invested in a ruler! ). Now I see why I felt like such an idiot when I couldn't get Satin Ice on a cake without it ripping to shreds... sillyme!!!

OK, I'm off to order Boxes and Bows!

Sharon, did I understand right? Are you making a Topsy Turvy dvd? Ohhhhh I can't wait!

Now I need to start saving $ for a pasta roller icon_razz.gif
