I recently made my first attempt at cake balls. They came out delish! When I dipped them, I used toothpicks. It got the job done, but several balls fell into the chocolate when the toothpick came out. I then remembered as a child my mother using a very small crochet hook to dip her peanut butter balls. Has anyone used this method on cake balls?

I always take a plastic fork and break out the two middle prongs and use it that way. It works great!

I use two toothpicks. One to dip it and the other to turn it around in the bark to keep it from falling completely off. If it does fall off, it is easy to grab with two toothpicks. If you freeze them before you dip them then they stay on the toothpick better!

I do the fork method. But one tip I remember reading was put the toothpick in the cakeball, freeze then dip.

Love those ideas!! hey, dandelion, do you know how you get the toothpick out then? isn't it stuck in the cake ball?? seems like you'd have to pull it out, but it'd be stuck, so then what? You cant hang on to the ball while you pull the toothpick...hmmm...

The suggestion was to pull them out through the underneath of a cooling rack. I had put wax paper on the cooling rack, punched a little whole then reached underneath to grab the toothpick & pull it out. You'll need to elevate the rack w/ glasses or something so you can get under it.

All great ideas. I was using the round Wilton chocolate dipper, but it dissapeared last Christmas when I asked the teenager to do the dishes.
