Am I the only only who has a problem with it? I enter my keyword and a billion different topics come up, none that, seemingly, have anything to do with my search topic. Then, when I hit "next" or the following page number at the bottom of the list, I get an error message that says no matches could be found. It's really frustrating and I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong.

It happens to me, too. I have the best luck using the search bar in the very top right hand of the screen. ----------->

Thanks! Now, if I could only remember what I was searching for earlier...

Sometimes it helps to narrow your results if you choose "search for all words" and even restrict your search to "thread title only" or something like that. But yes, it's got some problems, it can be really hard to sort thru results sometimes. I don't know why that error message thing happens - it does it sometimes, and sometimes I can get to the next page.

Sorry I don't have any help to offer, just figured you'd enjoy someone to commiserate with icon_wink.gif

One of my biggest search problems is not being able to go past the first page of search results. So I used google to search! I typed in cakecentral.com and whatever I wanted to search. On the results page, after the first or 2nd result, you'll see a line that says "See more results from www.cakecentral.com. Click on that, and then you'll get another list of results that are all cakecentral.com posts. This has really helped my frustration level with searching on this site!

I also just noticed that if you want, you can type "site: www.cakecentral.com" before your search term and it'll only show results from CC.

Hope this helps!

Ok, I need to correct what i just said. The "site: www.cakecentral.com" thing isn't working now. Sorry! But the google search is still helping me look through CC! icon_smile.gif

Hey, that's a great point about using google - because if you narrow the results to include "cakecentral.com" or even just "cake central" (being sure to use the quotes), you can also search for a quoted phrase such as "whipped cream buttercream." In my use of the CC engine, unless I am missing something, using quotes doesn't work. You have to search for "all words", but that gives you any thread containing all three words "whipped," "cream" and "buttercream"...but not necessarily together in a phrase. Thanks for the tip!

THe fewer search words, the better. If you HAVE to use two search words use "fondant AND figure" instead of just "fondant figure". If you are trying to find a particular thread and you remember ANY Cc'er who was part of the conversation, put their name in author. That REALLY helps narrow it down! Avoid really common words ... like don't look up "icing" ... you'll get 14 thousand hits!

LOL Debi, that's a good one. I have been known to search for "cake batter" although I would have still selected "all words" so it wouldn't return me any results for "cake" unless the word "batter" already appears in the thread.

But, uh, really, do I think that adding the word "cake" in there is going to NARROW down the results??!!! icon_confused.gificon_lol.gif

Where's the "hitting myself in the head with a mallet" emoticon when you need one?!
