Why....you Got Something Against Jet Puffed?

I've read several recipes for mmf, and they all say to use marshmallows that are not jet puffed.
I was always a kid who had to know why a rule was made before I decided whether to follow it. (serious character flaw) Somehow it's easier to follow directions if it makes sense.
Character flaws aside, does anyone know why we shouldn't use jet puffed marshmallows?
My understanding is that for some reason, the "better" marshmallows do not work as well for MMF. I tried several different batches of MMF with varying results, several of them bad enough for me to give up on MMF. However, I talked to a lady as OSSAS and she told me to try the miniature marshmallows and not to use jet puffed but use the cheap marshmallows, that it worked better. I'm not sure why it's better but I'll try it - just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I have used the store brand and have never had a problem (plus you save a bit). Jet Puffs are good for playing "Chubby Bunny"
I just think it is easier to get them smooth with the minis. I have seen several videos where they have used the big ones but I'll stick to the small ones.
I would think it would be easier to mix & maybe they melt better & more uniformly than the larger ones. I use the mini's, never had an issue.

i think i remember reading somewhere that jett puffed makes the mmf more puffy and elasticy (?spelling?) i find when i make mmf if i use the mini store brand i get a better consistancy.
i guess its personal preference.
good luck.
i've used both name brand and store brand and haven't noticed a difference between the two. i've also used the big ones (hubby bought the wrong ones) and they turned out fine, but i think the mini's melted faster. now saying that i usually buy the store brand, but only because i'm cheap .
I think you have to play with it and see. I don't like my mmf too sticky. The off brand works better, it is not so soft and mushy. BTW, the Albertson's brand is the Worst! I just threw it away, I couldn't add enough PS to make it workable....it stuck to every surface. Even my RKT with those marshmallows were a disaster!
I have tried big and mini ones, jet puffed and store brands, didn't really make a difference for me. But I was curious why jet puffed was on the not to use list. It might depend on the recipe you are using also.
I have wondered this also. I have always used Jet Puffed and my MMF comes out great. I was going to try the cheaper brands but have not ran across any and really haven't had any problem with the Jet Puffed. I really would like to know why they use off brands because I have no reason to use them.
I really have decided that with crisco's or vegetable shortening that the one with more trans fat is better for BC so I do use the off brands that tend to have more trans fat.

I'm glad to know others have experimented with it and I'm not the only "rebellious" one!
Your thread title made me laugh... thanks for that.
I heard it in Clint Eastwood's voice, for some reason...
