I've seen posts on here about different brands of coloring, fondant, etc... Well, Wilton is the only brand I have ever seen! I get all my stuff from either Hobby Lobby or Walmart... we don't even have a Michael's here. There is a cake decorating supply store that my Wilton course instructor told me about, but it's in the next town.

Do you think it would be worth it to check out that store? Are there other brands/products that are better than Wilton's, in your opinion?

Thanks!

hi there! like you i'd only been getting my things at michaels or hobby lobby but went to a supply store a few towns over looking for things for my wedding cake and was in HEAVEN!!! i was like a kid in a candy store!! i say, if you're in the neighborhood give it a shot. the things i got at the supply store were actually the same price if not cheaper than where i was getting things and they had a much bigger selection there. if you're not opposed to on line shopping i would go to www.countrykitchensa.com and check them out. good luck to you!!

I live far far away from civilization. I love it 99% of the time. My nearest grocery store is a 40 minutes drive away. My nearest WalMart is 50 minutes away. The Mall is 1 hour away. All of this is considered "going into town." You get used to it. You learn to plan well and stock up.

My nearest cake supply store is 1.5 hours away. But I am lucky, they are very affordable and carries the brands I like. But I have learned to stock up and not to allow myself to run out.

Even if your cake supply store is in "the next town over" learn to shop wisely and enjoy the trip. You learn to look forward to field trips when you live like I do. If it helps, just think of me when you make the drive.

I'm in the same boat. I live in the middle of no where...town population is under 400 people! Nearest stores are an hour to an hour and a half! So when I go shopping (which I hate to do!) it usually takes the entire day, so I stock up on everything! Of course I go to the Micheals and the little cake decorating place and get what I can. I will give any product a try, regardless of the brand...unless I've heard something negative about it in advance. You have to check out all your options and see what works best for you! Fortunately, I have accounts with companies like CK Products, Bakery Crafts etc...so I order most of the stuff in bulk and have it sent here. Shipping isn't cheap but it saves me a ton of time..and time is money!
