I am making a ton of cupcakes this weekend and wanted to see if y'all have any tips on making a good dome on top of the cupcake. Most of my recipes result in a flat top.. which is great when baking a layered caked.. but since it's a cupcake I would rather the domed top.
Any suggestions/recipes welcomed!
Thanks everyone
Yup. They rise fine, but they are usually flat with the wrapper, or a bit above. I am trying to get more of a hump.. like a typical cupcake, opposed to a flat top like we all aim for on cakes.
Okay, I can't take credit for this tip because I learned it here on CC but I can't remember from who.
If you normally bake your cuppies at 350, preheat the oven to 400. After you put the cuppies in, reduce the temp down to 350. Something about the dropping temp makes them dome nicely. This has worked for me every time!
Good luck!

Txcupcake beat me to the answer. That method has always worked for me as well. This article goes into other suggestions:

txcupcake... Yes Thats it!! and it was talked about on the long cuppy thread.
I believe Melvira was the one that posted how to get the dome.
Well unless you read it some where else ! LOL!
But its works great !
You all are the best! Thank you I'm sure all the 4 year olds that I'm baking for will greatly appreciate my domes that I have been working so hard to achieve.. (hardy har-har..) Well.. maybe they won't be I will!
Thanks again

I raised this same question in another post and got the same wonderful advice. it really works. Here are some cupcakes I made recently with pretty decent domes (though the angle of the pic doesn't do them justice).

I think I read somewhere also that you can refrigerate the batter before putting it in the oven. Also heard about starting out hotter and then lowering.
