I Would Hate For This Boy To Be A Groom!

I love this boy to death, but dang he is too picky. If he was the groom in a wedding he would be the one yelling at the cake decorator telling her it didn't look good. I am making a Ben 10 cake for my soon to be 5 year olds birthday and this boy is getting on my nurves. I know I am no where close to perfect because I am only a begginer at this stuff but can't he cut me a break. He says the eyes arn't the right green, the eye brows just don't look right and his mouth looks bad cuz he isn't happy. When do kids learn that sometimes its ok to lie to mom and just say it looks good. I made him a ben 10 jacket to wear for his birthday party and he picked out every mistake on that too. LOL I know he dosn't know any better but dang it puts a damper on my day.LOL
The cake is ganna be a wig head covered in fondant and the cake will be his shoulders. Here is a picture of the wig head

and here is a picture of ben 10 just so you know what he should look like

On a brighter note he says his nose looks good. And thats funny because I don't like his nose!
LOL! Kids say the darndest things, you gotta love 'em! He just knows that you are the best and he thinks he is helping by giving his critique. Don't be hard on your self because you did an excellent job. I am sure when you are finished he will love his cake.
I don't think he understands that it won't look EXACTLY like the cartoon. You are working with cake versus a drawing. I have 3 kids of my own and when I make a cake, my oldest points out the flaws. You did a great job. Keep up the good work.
My 5yr old is the same. He told me he wanted to make a bust of Indiana Jones just like the Spiderman one except he wanted it to be FULL size
He got Lego Indiana Jones instead going after the Krystal Skull.

I know exactly the kind of critical children you are talking about. Sometimes when a mom picks up a birthday cake, I will tell her that I am concerned that her child will be unhappy with some small detail I've done. The mom always Nah, the cake is great, it'll be fine. So I ask for a phone call to tell me the child's reaction. And about 90% of the time, the mom will say, You were right, as soon as s/he saw it s/he said the color was wrong or the mouth was the wrong shape or some other thing wasn't perfect. Oh well. I just keep on doing what I do, I try not to be paranoid about it.
It's amazing. When I was a child, I would never have even considered criticizing anything an adult did. That just was not done in our house. My mom would smack me silly.
But he will grow up and one day you will be sitting there watching the food network thinking you will never be as good as the decorators on there, and he'll walk in to the room and say Mom, i don't know why you watch that you already can do that!!
Then you will realize that they finally get it, But of course its usually followed by can i have the car keys or i need some money. But for a brief instant it feels really good.
babrbaranoel~ I would love to see yours sons cake if you have pics! My son loves IJ
Sugarfosted~ I know just what you mean. I made a spiderman cake for a 4 year old and he was picking out the detailed stuff that was wrong while all the adults were awwwing over the cake. It is so funny how picky kids can be!
peg818~ I sure hope he does that!
After telling him he wasn't being very nice to me he came back about an hour later and said " mom I think he is starting to look better. I do like him now"
He is so cute. I can't get mad at him. I think kids are just so visual that they pick up on small things we would never consider.Although I was about to smack my husband last night after pulling the hair off 4 times cuz he kept saying it didnt look right. Husbands are old enough to know they should keep their mouths shut..LOL
I have ti highjack this thread a little.
On Saturday my 9 yr old daughter and I were frosting some cupcakes, just plain 'ol white with red sprinkles. My DH thought he was being funny
cuz he kept making comments about mine and saying how perfect hers were (total daddy's girl) so I picked one up and smashed it right in his face! It felt so good, and we all laughed so hard! I said "now does it look
better?" He was picking butterbream out of his nose for awhile!
I just love him!

LOL, that's exactly what I would have done!
I thought it was just me! LoL I made exact lifesize replica of Buzz Lightyear toy ( and then made the ship on the side) and the only thing he said when he saw it was" Where is the blaster?" LoL
LOL... My DD is 4 and is already a certified cake snob! She's got the chef jacket to prove it too! She's 4 and has already learned kitchen procedures for producing cakes... She even critiques batter... Man... Nothing like Mini Me...
The next comment he makes, march him down to the Walmart Supercenter to pick out a cake kit LOL...
