I don't know if this is the place to post this since we mostly do frosted cut-outs, but maybe somebody knows what this cookie is.

It's a three colored cookie that was about an inch thick, kind of shaped like a really thick lady finger, and must have had three different colored doughs smushed together so they kind of marbled. However, it was light as air which is what threw me off, almost the consistency of cake but a bit harder. And it had a sweet white glaze covering it.

My friend brought it back from a business trip for me and can't remember what its name is.

TIA!!

Were they petit fours?

Are petit fours the square chocolate covered cake pieces? If they are then it wasn't that. When I picked it up it was deceivingly light and when I pushid into it it was almost the texture of a marshmallow that had been left out in the air for a day or so. But it was a cookie. Not at all a cookie texture. It was so freaking good! It's killing me that I don't know what it is! And i don't even know what to Google to find out. That's the sad part, lol. Usually I can find anything!

Yes, petit fours are the square, icing-covered cake pieces.

Now I'm stumped. I hope someone has the answer!

I've seen those and I think they're either called Venetians, Neopolitans or Italian Christmas Cookies. The ones I've seen most often were red, white and green -- the colors of the Italian flag -- but I've also seen the pink. HTH!

There is also something called a spumoni cookie; it isn't "fluffy." This is more of an icebox / slice and bake cookie.

Thank you for posting those links Honey, but it wasn't any of those. It defiently wasn't sliced. It was like they took three little balls of dough, pink green and plain, and smushed it into one big ball and then baked it. They marbled together and were really light and fluffy, not like the consistency of a regular cookie. I am completly stumped but I MUST have this recipe!!! Lol!!

Thanks 7yyrt. It is looking closer to what it was. I'm off to look up Neopolitan cookies. I know they call for pistachios and these didn't have any nuts, but maybe if I could at least get the batter down I could tweak it later. Thanks!

Where was your friend while on the business trip? Maybe it's a regional specialty and can be found doing some searches in that geographic area.

We have a big fluffy looking cookie - similar to the one in the photo - that I've seen in the grocery store in the Mexican food aisle. I can't recall the brand name tho.

Are you sure they were cookies? The way you describe the center sounds like a meringue or a pavlova.

Your description of the texture reminded me of a Stella D'Oro cookie called Anginetti. These are not colored, though. Maybe you can buy a pack to taste. My regular grocery sells them, but you might need to go to an Italian market.

Here is a recipe for them (I've never made myself):
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Anginetti/Detail.aspx

If you read the second review down from the recipe, there is more info that may help you.

Please let us know what you find out; they sound delicious!

Here's another recipe on another site:

Thank you all so much for helping me figure this out! You're all so nice!

She was in Milwaukee at an Italian bakery which I have since e-mailed and asked what kind of cookie it was, but they haven't replied. They have a website but it wasn't on there either.

As for a meringue or the other cookie you suggested, I know it wasn't a meringue, but I will check the links and see it it was that. I have always thought meringues were crunchy and this wasn't, but had the texture of a dry cake, and when you pushed in with your finger it made an indent.

Off to check the links! Thanks again!

Let us all know what you find out when you hear back from the bakery.

BTW, the Iced Lemon Italian cookies sound sooo wonderful.

I just rearranged my schedule today to fit them in. icon_wink.gif

No, the bakery still hasn't replied and the two recipes I have that sound similar just got put on the back burner for now.

However, if I *need* to take a road trip to Milwaukee to investigate, I'm willing and able!!! Lol!!

I'm just outside of Milwaukee. What is the name of the bakery?

The 2 that come to mind are Scardina's on the southwest side and one whose name I can't remember on the east side on Brady Street.

I could go take a look especially if it's the one on the southwest side. We go there quite a bit.

OMG, Cookiemookie, that would be amazing!! I remember that it had Peter in the name, so I'm thinking it is the Scardina's one that you mentioned. It was kind of like an oblong puffy ball and then had the three colors mixed together. Gosh it was yummy! Let me know if you get some, I'm so curious to see what somebody else thinks of them and if they have a clue as to what they are.

Not sure if I have the right information for you . We went to the Bakery on the East side(Brady Street) and they told us they got them from Scardina's in West Allis. They called them "Rainbow Cookies"

So we went to Scardinas(we go there alot for their brat buns) and they are doing remoldeling and not featuring as many Italian cookies at the present. They also called them"Rainbow Cookies".

I did a search online and got several recipes for them. I'm still not sure it's what you are looking for.

When we go to the Farmers Market we will be going to Scardina's alot and I'll keep you posted.

Can you tell I was cleaning out my email box?
