I was on the Wilton site, and ppl were complaining that CC was down, and they can't get their cc fix, so I checked it out. I have only been back to wilton when cc was down and i was desperate for an answer (the questions got posted the next day- too late for me, and I never did get any answers )
i too was on wilton site after taking my first cake class. but couldnt stand the 24 hour wait for post and replies.
after some complants, somewhere there told me about CC and ive been here ever since. i dont think ive been back to wilton in two years!!!
thanks CC.
I found CC on Charm City Cakes. I got curious about how much Duff charges for his cakes, stuck around to read the rest of the FAQs and was led here. I am sooooo addicted.....I don't post much, but it feels like I've read almost every how-to since I joined and have tried a ton of recipes. This site is as addicting as a bag of Fritos (my fav.)....The more times you are here, the more you want to come back.
I found this site through Wilton's website as well.
I had just finished my very first cake and wanted to know how to get icing smooth. I went on Wilton's website and found a link to the upside down method (in the articles) and posted a question about it and have been here since! A true addict and happy to admit it, and not looking for a cure or help for my addiction
i"m officially embarrased, i went and back and peeked into the thread I was trying to get away from.
My son was taking the Wilton courses, and when DH went to pick him up, he overheard the instructor tell the class about CC. Yes, all three of us "cake".

I'm right there w/ya on that one! Can't seem to get away from my boyfriend that Edna keeps posting pix of!
Answer OP: Probably because I got a new computer that could handle high-speed internet and a KA all in the same christmas!
I think I was searching google for cake sites. I just knew that there was something else out there besides Wilton's site. Don't get me wrong I still visit the Wilton site but I usually am just checking it out to see if there is anything new. I don't go to the forums much anymore, I hate the one day waiting time for responses.
Here I can PM someone with questions and you all amaze me at how you all have responded with the information that I was looking for. Thanks for that! I love that there is page after page of pictures. The list could just go on about what I love about this site it is just amazing!
My husband used to always ask me what you doing on line, now he just says "Looking at cake porn again." (I had mentioned that some else on her had called it that and now that all he calls it.)
I was looking for pictures of sexy guys...and was led to this site.
I found out it was a bunch of cake decorators who sometimes got out of control. only joking.
I actually was alerted that someone mentioned me on CC and I should check it out. I went there to see what they were saying and found a decorators paradise. I was afraid to become a member and only lurked for almost a year.
I was searching for ideas for cakes and found this website. Every day I find something new to learn and I still have lots to learn. I am always amazed at the incredible talent that is on this website and the wonderful sharing of knowledge and ideas.
All I wanted was a great chocolate cake recipe, so I googled "Best Chocolate Cake Recipe" and one of the sites that returned a result was this one. I didn't decorate, couldn't decorate, had no intention of decorating.
Then I saw the pics of cakes on here. Me, literally --> I spent hours looking at baby shower cake pics, I was so stunned. Tried a really simple, basic decoration...had a hella time at it, it's actually the very first (meaning, oldest) cake in my gallery... Even as sucky as that cake was, somehow the experience left me with a desire to try again and figure it out. If you'd told me then that I'd be able to do what I do now, with no formal training (but with hours and hours of CC time logged) I'd have told you you were nuts. I didn't even think I'd ever decorate another cake, it was just a little cake I wanted to do for a friend.
Hm, that reminds me, I am probably overdue to donate $ here.
goodness..i just looked at the time of the last few posts....what are you guys doing up at 2 am and posting here....don't ya sleep? oh,maybe this is what i should do when the night time hot flashes hit....take the laptop to bed.
A couple years ago I had purchased a set of vintage 3D cookie cutters while on vacation, and couldn't wait to try them out. The problems started almost immediately. I just could not figure out how to decorate the darn things. So I went on-line and did some surfing. Found CC. I never did find a way to decorate those cookies, but I became instantly hooked on the site, and especially on decorating cookies. I couldn't believe how beautiful a sugar cookie could be! The talent on this site just blew me away! I was inspired and I came up with my own 3D cookie designs that eliminated all the problems I was having before. With the encouragement of a lot of CC decorators, I had custom cutters manufactured and I now sell a 3D cookie cutter kit. I cannot begin to explain what a thrill it is to know that something I put together is in the kitchens of cookie decorators around the world! All because of CC and the wonderful people here.
I met a woman from MI at the Wilton Master Course. She was my tablemate and she told me about CC. I don't know whether to thank her or curse her for it, because now I'm addicted and take a lot of teasing from my family!!!!
I just learn so much from you all, though, and just made the first cake that I was truly proud of (wish I could get the photo to upload), using Melvira's roller method and IndyDebbie's tip about cutting a nick in cake layers to make realigning easier after torting.
Thanks so much to all of you for sharing your best tips and inspiring me with your marvelous creations!!!!
I was on YouTube looking at cakes last year and was really impressed by someone on there. I emailed her and asked if she was self taught or had taken classes. She glady told me she learned everything she knew from CC! The rest is history...
funny story...i was googling trying to find some inspiration for my pineapple cake. i ended up on cake central. you had to become a member to look at anything. i decided i really didn't need to become a member of anything else, so i left. several weeks later my brother told me he had found some ideas for me to use here at cc. so i signed up and can't seem to leave. now everytime i mention cc my brother asks "are you still on that site"? funny...that sounds like the story of how i met my husband! lol
i got this website from my course 1 wilton instructor. i probably go on this site at least 15 times a day.. im not even exaggerating, probably more! =]
everytime i sit down i log on to see what is happening....its a snow day for school today in central ohio, so i have been on this site more today than since summer.....i just can't get anything else done....the ups man did bring my new cake stand today, i am excited, can't wait for the wedding, but it is not till june....maybe i'll have to think of something to use this stand for in my culinary class at school, shouldn't be too hard, muy husband says i am always thinking of new ways to make work for myself, most of it involves cakes......
I stumbbled upon you guys... I wrote down a web site someone gave me and she gave me the wrong name... You guys have blessed me so much... I learn something new every day that i get on here...
This was the most fantastic find for me..... I was snooping at wedding cakes and found this site......I tell everyone about it......it's a safe, informative, user friendly best site .....THANKS CC MEMBERS.....
I had a dream one night a couple weeks before my DD 1st birthday, it was of her cake, it would have one tier polka dots and one tier stripes. When i woke up I got on the computer looking for images that fit my description. I ended up on CC. I wound up making her cake that year and now i also make cakes for friends and family. I have been here ever since.
I did a web search for a cake recipe and brought me here! And I'm glad, because there is a lot of good information. Congratulations on the website.
I was searching for ideas for a friends birthday cake and cake across CC. I have been hooked ever since. My husband has always been one to get on his computer & "surf" and I nevercould understand it. But know I don't mind because I just get on here. I love CC!!!!!!
I was actually drooling over the cakes in the Charm City Cakes website and they recommended this website for cake making tips and such. I really like it so far
I was goofing off at work and scanning the internet looking for cake stuff. I was the first one in the office at 6:00 a.m. .... the rest of my dept wasn't scheduled in until 7:30 and 8:00. So here I am, surfing away and I come across the FBCT tutorial. I was freakin' mesmerized! The rest is number-of-posts-record-setting-history!
I was on Charm City Cakes site and was directed to CC. I am now addicted. I got a wireless laptop so I could bring it in the kitchen with me right after I discovered CC. Not a day (hardly even an hour!) goes by that I don't check out what's going on here! I love it, I love all the support and ideas and sharing, not to mention the inspiration!
Like many others, I found about CC (recently) from my Wilton instructor. I'm officially hooked (as a lurker)-this is my first post! LOVE looking at the photos to get ideas and to stare in awe at what can be done with cake! Everyone seems to create such wonderful cakes. Maybe I'll make something one of these days that's worthy of being uploaded to here!
look at all the newbies who are posting for the first time...ain't it grand that there are so many of us with this common addiction....cakes.
Newbies keep posting and click your heels together and say "i want to be Indydebi"
