I'm not an experienced baker so, I'm afraid to try. icon_redface.gif
Good luck and please make sure to bring your work to admire it icon_smile.gif

You can go to the red hot kitchen for instructions. Melissa also sells the molds to make the bottles. http://www.theredhotkitchen.com/ProjectInstructions.html

I haven't done the beer bottles, but I have done ice cubes out of Knox gelatin mixed with white grape juice, and it worked great!

Millermom, how did you do that?

I can't remember if I used 2 or 3 packets of Knox brand gelatin, but it made a 9x13 pan about 1" deep.

I followed the directions on the box, but substituted white grape juice and about 2 Tbsp. sugar instead of water, just to give them some flavor.

They did turn out slightly yellow, like the juice, but once I put them on the cake, it didn't make a difference, and I think they look a little more realistic since they can be made square like a real ice cube.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions. icon_smile.gif

I forgot to mention that there is a picture of the cake (the cooler cake) in my photos if you'd like to see them. It was summer, and there is some condensation on them because I kept them cold and put them on at the last minute, but they held up well in the heat; I was surprised.

I hope someone answered your question...like I said, I haven't try yet, but I'm tempted. I will probably make them just to practice and not on a day I have to make a cake icon_biggrin.gif

Good luck!

I just checked out the link for the sugar molds for beer and coke bottles, but I am confused on how they are used, and there don't seem to be any directions on the page yet ... do you make two bottles and then stick them together? Or do you only use half a bottle? thanks for any help!

I made a sugar beer bottle once. Well my husband did. He carefully cut a beer bottle in half and used that as the mold. He poured in hot sugar after he sprayed the glass bottle with pam. He then used a spoon and formed the sugar to the inside of the bottle. Let it get hard and removed and did again. He then used a large pan and turned on the heat to get warm. Once warm he put half the bottle in to melt the edge. Then joining the two together. He used a real bottle to get an correct size for the bottle. I will post the pix of the bottle with the cake.

Hope it helps good luck.
