How about something with a denim theme. That's blue. Maybe somehow do the fondant like denim with a red bandana accent somehow. If you're good with molding fondant, you could mold a rocking horse and some cowboy boots. Just a thought.

I had a baby shower with a cowboy theme a few weeks back. DARN it I wish I had pics!

From this idea, I made baby cowboy boots-- added an additional cupcake to the back to make it taller, cut a V in it where it is open for your leg, and pointed the toe. I covered them in blue stars with a brown trim up the side of the boot for decoration and made a fondant spur for the back.

A rope for a border would be cute too.

Here's the look I was trying to convey:

Here is an idea. I know it isn't a "Cake" cake but if you can see the little cowboy that looks like he is bow-legged with chaps on. It's kinda cute:

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!

Ok how about this, (now don't ask me where this is coming from because usually its ME asking everyone for advice icon_smile.gif ) but what if you covered the cake in fondant, white or blue (for the denim) and then like gdixon suggested use the fondant to twist yellow/gold fondant into a rope (or a lasso) and put around the edge of the cake and then cut out a boot and actually make the little boys head round or 3D with a cowboy hat on it and some other little cowboy decorations on it. Don't know if any of that makes any sense or helps at all but just a thought. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm really nervous about this cake!! lol

I really like all the suggestions everyone else has given! I would probably go with the denim idea, and the rope/lasso, and pipe or mold cactus, horseshoes and stars.

Here's a cake to help visualize the 'denim':

good idea charlieinMO!! I wonder is using half of a sports ball pan would work and not be too rounded for the little boy's head sticking out of the boot?

I love the lasso idea.. I know I can do that .. twisting maybe a tan, yellow or gold color and making a small rope around the border ..

Now cutting out a boot or actually making another cake in a boot shape wouldn't be too hard to do .. covering in brown/tan color fondants .. maybe making the boot a cake on top of a sheet cake would work better with using the rounded cake for the baby's head ..

what do you guys think?

I really like your idea of using the half ball to have the baby's head sticking out of the boot - that would be adorable!

Love that denim edencakes!!

I think that would work great. If you wanted to make the head smaller you could use a mini wonder mold (or mini sports ball which ever it is called)

I am getting excited for you!! Can't wait to see what you decide icon_smile.gif

I am picturing a red handkerchief sticking out of that pocket on edenscake, and assorted cowboy items on the layers with a fondant rope draped down it, maybe the lasso on the top

Ok... the vote of my co-workers was for the attached pic... now this is where I need more ideas lol ... so help ladies!!

how do you think I should do this one because time is running out and I need to start on the cake tonight... first, it needs to feed 50 people.. so I'm thinking of using my 12 x 18 inch sheet pan .. I was thinking of doing another cake, maybe a 9 x 13 cut into a boot shape ... or maybe just doing fondant cut into the shapes of the boot and the little fellow at the bottom of the cake and doing a twisted rope like in the pic all the way around the cake ...

so what's the vote with you guys.. do another cake on top with the boot and maybe using the half of the sports ball pan or maybe half of the mini-wonder mold pan for the head of the baby coming out of the boot?? or maybe a small round pan for the head .. .then there's the dilema of doing the cowboy hat on the rounded shape .. I just hope I can pull this one off ... any tips or ideas from you sculpted cake guru's, please feel free to give me ideas!!! I need all the help I can get!!!

I went to a birthday party a few weeks ago and that cake was done in a western theme. It was a sheet cake and it was all decorated with black red and white. It had a brown boot on there and all around the edges of the cake, they had that paisley looking design that goes on western stuff. That would be easy to do out of fondant. She also had a rope around the middle where it said happy birthday. Wish I could explain it more. Hope this is of some help!

If you used the 9x13 on top of the 12 x 18 would that be too much cake??
I know you might want some fresh ideas lol but I was checking this before I go to work tonight and saw your message. I would have to vote for the fondant cut outs
