i was a little wacko the other night shopping, and remembered i heard someone say that pineapple ice cream topping worked well as a cake filling, so i said, strawberry should work too! and bought a jar. now that i'm looking at it and tasting it, i can't figure out what, if anything, is different btwn the strawberry ice cream topping and regular strawberry jam or jelly.

has anyone used this for a filling? do you know of any way to cut the super-sweetness of it? i'm afraid with sweet icing it might be too much sweet. i'm planning on using with a white cake.

the quickest replies are much appreciated - i'm doing the final on this cake tonight icon_twisted.gif

I doubt it will matter. I would just make sure the dam you put up around the layers is thick enough that the filling doesn't run. The jam/jelly is thicker then the icecream topping that's all. Sounds delicious!!

thanks turtle...

i just got done filling and crumb coating my layers. i ended up with a cool new idea on the strawberry - because i was afraid it would run through the cake and drip down into the second cake or something.

i mixed the strawberry with icing! it tastes so yummy - like strawberries and cream! - and has a really thick consistency now. my icing is just vanilla, and i am using the 1/2 butter 1/2 crisco recipie for icing, and the all crisco for decorations. so i mixed both of those into the strawberry topping.

Well look at you!! What a great idea!! I bet it does taste good!! Another idea you can use Marshmello Fluff & mix w/ the filling, that is if you like MMfluff. I love anything having to do with mm's!! Your cake is going to taste great!!
