i have a friend that wants a cake for dad and he works in the coal mines and sha wants a hard hat and i dont know where to start,please give me some ideals....

Well I had to google it for a good image and I am by no means and expert but I would probably approach it as follows:

I don't have that big shaped pan so I would bake in a pyrex pudding bowl or round bowl. Carve out the contour lines down it a little.

I would use fondant to creat the shape of the hat brim.

The torch shape reminds me of one of those icecream cone cups (the ones you can bake cupcakes in)

I would cover it up with fondant to match the helmet and then maybe form a light bulb shape and stick that inside the cone cup thingy!

For the glass I would probably cut a piece of clear acetate out for that part!

Well hope this gives you a few ideas

Don't forget to add the stickers and smudges of coal dust!
