well i have tried to use satin ice fondant and it just didn't work and i have tried wilton which it came out nice but it doesn't taste very good what brand of fondant is good.
What do you mean by it just didn't work? Satin Ice is my favorite! Did it get hard? Did it crack?
If you just don't like it though, I've heard people rave about Fondariffic before.
I love Satin Ice. I just ordered some and it was a bit hard but just needs to be kneaded a little. What didn't you like about it? I also make Marshmellow fondant and thats good too!
I have been using Satin Ice. I think it's really easy to work with. I just made a batch of Michelle Foster's fondant this week and I loved the taste, but found it harder to work with. (I plan to make another batch to play round with though, to see if I can get a better consistency). I found Michelle's fondant hard to used for modeling, but it worked ok for covering a cake. The taste was definitely worth the effort.
Hi amy27,
I use 3 different brands of fondant and I promise you one is NOT Wilton! However, I use Fondx mostly, Satin Ice for colors (I buy it that way, of course! Time saver!), last but definitely not least Fondarific for the chocolate and butter cream flavors.
Everyone has different opinions. You just have to find what is best for you.
Good Luck!
Toni
I know to stay away from Wilton fondant.
I've had decent luck with Satin Ice. It kneads very well, and if it seems a little dry, it responds very well to extra shortening on my hands.
I've recently made MMF and added chocolate melts to it for additional flavoring and color. It was super easy to make, and it was manageable for covering a cake. However, I didn't try making figures or anything elaborate with it.
There are so many options available with fondant, that I think it's just a matter of finding what works for you. Think of it as a journey of discovery. Good luck!
. . . what type of "problems" did you have with Satin Ice . . . maybe we can help (or maybe you got a bad batch??) . . . I have only ever used Satin Ice and found it very user friendly (even for a beginner, like me) . . .
I agree 100%! Please share your issues with Satin Ice. I have never had a problem with it at all and I have every single color in my pantry and use it all the time. Maybe we can help you iron out your issues. I noticed that you liked the Wilton fondant but hated the taste. Satin Ice is NOTHING like Wilton (in consistency or taste) they are very different as you will find all fondants to be. But with the price and accessability of Satin Ice, it is worth it if you can figure out your issues. Especially with the pricing right now at Globalsugarart. Share and let's see if we can help!

I use Wilton but that's only because I don't have access to any other kind at the moment. I really want to try Satin Ice but I don't have a credit card or debit. I might look into other options of payment LOL cause I really want to try it.
I personally like Wilton for how easy it is to use. No one in my house likes fondant anyways so they peel it off. They like my home made kind but I find homemade harder to work with.
Satin Ice. I used to make MMF but found it to messy to make and sometimes too sticky.
I use Rhonda's Ultimate MMF recipe and make it myself. I tried Rhonda's once and never looked back.
For figures I order Satin Ice and add a gumpaste to it to make figures. It's worked out really great for me.
When I first started I used Wilton's on a class cake. Now I wouldn't use it to cover a garbage can. That stuff is absolutely horrible.
For me, it depends on the budget, I use Satin Ice but my favorite is Albert Uster, Massa Americana. The flavor is incredible , to work with is just fabulous. It dont create the little stretch marks and you can roll It very thin and wont break. Love it!
I like to use both Wilton Fondant and Satin Ice.
My husband absolutely loves the taste of the Ivory (Satin Ice) because it tastes like white chocolate.
Although I have to use Wilton because I teach Wilton Cake decorating... You can change the taste by adding in clear flavourings... All you have to do is simply add the flavourings a little more carefully then colouring fondant but... the same way!
Just a thought! Everyone has there own way of decorating and there our tips of the trade.
Happy Decorating!
I use Satin Ice. I like it fine... I'm sure there's nicer fondant but Satin Ice is affordable, tastes fine, and works fine! I like FondX as well but have just started using Satin Ice as the FondX came in smaller tubs.
I tried using MMF and found it really sticky and hard to work with. Last week I had to make some because I was out of satin ice, I decided to experiment and added a 1//4tsp of gum-tex to the MMF. Worked amazing, totally changed the texture of the MMF. It makes it just a little more dense and was really easy to work with. I will use this again.
Hi,
Last year I began making Toba Garrett's fondant recipe. I really like the taste. I made her Almond fondant for my daughter's wedding cake and it worked out beautifully.
For red and black I have continued to use Satin Ice. I have been afraid that by the time I add enough color it might affect the flavor. I plan to experiment with those colors with Toba's recipe some time this year.

i use satin ice mostly. then i use wilton for things i know will not be eaten. every time i've used wilton, i've had the best results, it just really stinks that it tastes so terrible. satin ice is a lil different that wilton but i'm starting to get better.
I'm a chocolate fondant gal all the way! LOVE LOVE it!!!! It not only tastes good, you can roll it much thinner because of the oils in the chocolate. 99.9% if my wedding cakes are fondant. They taste, they order

I had a problem with Satin Ice as well, it was cracking along the edges of the cake and dried out too quickly for me to make imprints in it. My Wilton instructor said that she has found Satin Ice difficult as well. I haven't tried it again, but I think that it needs to be rolled thicker than Wilton (which I agree tastes awful but is the easiest to work with). I have used Bakels Pettinice which tastes okay and is easier to work with but the MMF really tastes the best and is the most cost effective. I do find that it doesn't hold it's shape well for modeling so I mix it with Bakels or Wilton for figures. I plan to try out Michelle Foster's recipe soon because I've read many posts recommending that recipe.
I make MMF. It taste pretty good and is very cost effective! I make batches of it at one time so I always have some on hand. It seems to work better for me when it has had time to sit for a day or two.

. . . what recipe do you use Jen (or is it Choco Pan) . . . I have yet to try but am very intrigued, sounds delish . . .
The recipe and step by step how to make it is on my DVD, The Easy & Tasty Way To Perfect Fondant. AND, it's VERY easy to make and sooo tasty!
If you have any more questions email me.
when I tired the satin ice it cracked at the edges and i even tried to roll it out thicker and it did it again i was thinking I may have got a bad batch I bought it in a 20pound tub maybe I will try it again but buy smaller tubs i do use the MMF for my smaller cakes but I tubs are easier for large cakes maybe I will give fondX a try i see how it goes thanks for all your help.
I like the Choco Pan fondant for covering cakes with. It never really hardens (even after being left out for several days) so I wouldn't recommend it for figures or anything intricate. For that stuff, I like Satin Ice. I'm going to take some suggestions from everyone and try some different brands of fondant. I've never heard of some of the ones that were mentioned in this thread.
Oh yeah, for those that buy Satin Ice from Global Sugar Art, you need to try this website for it as well. I buy mine from www.intotheoven.com and have found it to be cheaper than Global Sugar Art. The shipping isn't has high.

I tried to find the recipe for Rhondas MMF fondant and couldnt find it in the recipe section.. did I just miss it?
I used to only use Satin Ice, but recently have had some problems with it. I believe there was another thread about how they have changed the way they make Satin Ice and it doesn't seem to be the same. I just ordered both the white and ivory Choco-pan for 2 upcoming cakes. I love the taste of Choco-pan and it covers cakes nicely.
