Need Help With Eagle Scout Cake

I am looking for instructions and/or templates for the eagle scout medal and the eagle scout court of honor emblem.....can anyone help....thank you.........

the boy scout office has a cookie cutter that can give you an outline. I copied each of the badges up to eagle and placed on my sons cake. here was the cake and cookies I made.

Thank you..........I have some images...several on this site....I just don't know how they made the medal and emblem.....especially the eagle....I know they are made of fondant...but is there a mold or something used.....looking for detail on how to make them....I am challenged in this area!!!!!!

I did a 3 tiered one last year where I piped the values around the outside in blue, and used red white and blue ribbon around the bottom. For the eagle on the top, I did it free hand in edible marker...HTH! the photo is in my gallery...

I did one recently, and what I did was get a picture of the emblem and trace it onto fondant and kind of build it...a layer at a time. It ended up kind of 3-D looking. For the eagle, I traced it onto fondant, and then "carved" the detail onto it and then brushed it with silver luster dust. I'll look and see if it's in my pics and add it if it's not. Good luck!

I did what rsaun did, using a toothpick and my hands pretty much! Here's a picture, http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=215193
There's a couple other cakes too, but all use the same type eagle, so if you want to look them up, feel free.

Using a copier to blow up the eagle medal (it was on the front of the invitation) to the size I needed is what helped me. I think I even put one under my clear fondant mat while I worked to make sure I didn't change the size/shape of it while I was doing the detail work. I had another one cut out and loose to use for reference. Once it was a couple days dry I painted it w/ lemon extract and Nu-silver luster dust.

I looked at the actual award, and copied it. I first cut the shape out of fondant (trace the real medal onto wax paper), then I free handed the rest. It is really easier than it looks.

Then I painted it silver with luster dust. I also hand painted the badges up to eagle free hand on discs cut from gp. It's in my pics. Use it if you would like.

All were done freehand in buttercream.

This is the easiest way I've found for adding the eagle badge to a cake (I'll try to attach a photo): Copy a picture of the badge at the size you want to use. Trace the outline onto thin cardboard and cut it out. Cover this with aluminum foil and secure with tape. Place the original picture on top of the foil and use a ballpoint pen to trace the lines of the design. You can now pipe over the lines with black icing (I use a #1 tip). I pipe the oval onto the cake (I used a 12X18 in the picture, but I have also used an 11X15) and fill in with red, white, and blue stars using a #16 tip. I use mini-marshmallows to lift the foil emblem off the cake and use icing to hold it in place. At the court of honor, the emblem comes off, and the cake is eaten. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

This is very nice GeminiRJ...but...I am not understanding the part with the marshmallows....so you have your design in foil and put your original picture on the foil...but I don't understand after that...sorry...can you give more detail. After the tracying. you say pipe the oval...is that fromthe picture...

Sorry, I figured I might have been a bit vague! I'll try to do better. I start with my design on paper exactly how I want it to be on the cake. I have it cut out so that I can trace the outline onto thin cardboard, which I then cut out using an exacto blade. I cover the cardboard cut-out with foil, trimming around the edges, folding them under, and taping them to the back. I then take the original paper design and place it over the foil (taping it into place in a couple areas so it won't shift). Using a ballpoint pen, I trace all the lines from the design, making sure to press firmly. Remove the paper and you will see the design imprinted into the foil.

I will now ice the cake. I place a template of the oval onto the iced cake and trace around it with a toothpick. I fill in the oval with the red, white, and blue #16 stars. I add the lettering. I now use some icing to "glue" the mini-marshmallows onto the back of the foil plaque. Flip it right side up and place onto the decorated oval. Using a #1 tip and black icing, I pipe over the imprinted lines. I finish the cake by adding side swags and the top & bottom borders.

I hope this makes better sense! It really is an easy way to get the eagle badge onto a cake, and I like that you get the shiny silver color by using foil. Feel free to ask more questions if you need clarification.

If I understand correctly, the marshmellows are just to provide an edible barrier and lift between the cardboard and the cake. The Eagle badge would not be edible, as it is made from foil and cardboard.

Right?

Exactly! Not only does it not touch the cake this way (especially important if your icing doesn't crust), but it highlights the badge better.
