Hi all,
I was wondering what your thoughts are on Pillsbury cake mixes for making the WASC. I've only used Betty Crocker in the past, but my local grocery store has a really good sale on the Pillsbury mixes right now. What do you think?

Bump. Sorry, don't mean to be obnoxious by bumping, but I'm heading to the store in a little while and I would love some opinions!

My experience with Pillsbury has never been good. The cakes don't seem to rise as well and I haven't liked the flavors as well. Just my opinion...

I hate to say this but I don't use either of your choices. I only use Duncan Hines and add an extra egg, milk instead of water. I have not liked any other mix now for almost 20 yrs if I have to make a boxed cake.

IMO I love Pilsbury mixes. They come out moist and taste much better than the other brands of mixes I've tried. Now I've never used them for WASC, but maybe someone else has. I also like that they are much cheaper than the other mixes. I can get them for under a dollar at Walmart. Recently I just bought a bunch for .88 a box. HTH.

i used to use pillsbury all the time because it was the cheaper or was always on sale. one time i needed a specific flavor and pilsbury was out, so i decided to try betty crocker...and boy is she much better!!! imo...betty crocker is the way to go...hth

I will only use Pillsbury. I have used them for many years. I tried some of the others, and my daughters would look at me an say " what did you do"? So I stick to what I know, and have no complaints.

America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated rated box mixes, and Betty Crocker came out on top.

Thanks so much to everyone for your opinions. Sounds like the vote is somewhat evenly split, though Betty may have the edge.

I think we've all learned from this post that it comes down to personal preference. I don't think we could ever get a popular opinion heavily-weighted in one direction. That said--I've used all three (DH, BC and Pillsbury) and found them all to be fine.

I am trying the WASC right now for the first time. It's in the oven!! I used the Pillsbury just because it was on sale. Usually I use Duncan Hines for all my cakes and doctor them up. No one ever has negative comments its always they can't believe how moist they are. I personally bought a bunch of Pillsbury last week since they were BOGO free.

I always use pillsbury. One reason is because its only 88 cents at walmart and another is it already has pudding mix in it. It also, taste really good and moist to me.
I actually just baked 2 WASC using pillsbury. They came out great and the taste is fantastic. I don't think I will be making just a plain old cake anymore.
I do want to try DH and BC, but just haven't yet. I'm sure they are just as good.

Over the years, I've come to find I like Pillsbury best. For me, it's just moister. I'll use the others, and when some recipes specifically state one mix over the other, I'll use what is recommended, but I love Pillsbury overall.

I only use BC. IMO Duncan Hines's texture is too fake...like a real sponge vs. a fake sponge texture. I don't care for the texture or taste of Pillsbury either.
There is a new store here in So. Cal. called Winco, their BC mixes are always 89cents!! Bargain!!! I can only find Butter Pecan at Wal-Mart though which is pretty tastey...

Pillsbury is always my first choice, but I don't mind BC. The only one I won't use is DH, just don't care for it at all.

Pillsbury hands down....i was really upset with them when they changes the formula, but i have gotten used to it now...always good, its all in the baking and the additives..

I have always used Betty Crocker...and add a box of pudding, 1 extra egg and a little buttermilk...and shazaam....delicious, moist cake every time.....

Betty Crocker has never failed me. DH is horrible and doesn't rise well
