So, there has been a lot of talk about Lambeth lately and I thought maybe I would get a book to learn how to do it and check it out. I went on ebay, half, and a few other websites and it was running around at least $200. Is that right? What do you get for $200? That seems crazy to me, but I would have a hard time spending that much on a book. I just thought I would ask around here.
can we say:
Antique
as in
Out of print
Rare
Collector's Item.
------
and depending upon if it's one of the original press runs or a later reprint, the price varies too.
Original can go past $500!
-----
the book details the methods, with copious photos, of the Lambeth method.
----
it comes down to how much do you really really really just have to learn the Lambeth method?
----
personally -- I will pass as even the reprints are sooooo far out of my price league.
instead I'll just get advice from those on CC who know how.
Here is this one on ebay, it's out of Australia though.

Have you checked the Library? I checked it out through my library through their inner-library loan service. Glad I didn't buy it.
Don't pay $200 for it. I bought 2 at a an estate sale in NY for $25 books. Gave it to an Book Dealer friend in NY. He sold in for $98. He gave me 65 dollars. I used the money for my triplets college fund.
The book was beautiful, had color plated pictures, I sold it because it lambeth is too much work.
I purcahased mine from U.K. and even w/shipping it was much less than anything similar on (U.S.) ebay.
Whether it's worth it depends on how serious you are about the Lambeth style of decorating (although it does contain recipes, also) whether you're a book collector or if want the ultimate gift for a cake decorator. Suppose resale (either after reading) or as primary goal is another option.
How much you pay also depends on the edition and conditon of the book. A signed book is also more valuable.
Here's a link which details standardized book grading criteria: www.ioba.org/desc.html
If you're patient, "readable" copies do become available on ebay which are significantly less pricey.
If you have time to spend hunting and searching, certainly yards sales, etc. might pay off with a steal of a copy.
How much time do you have, and what is your time worth?
FYI, the vintage Wilton contour (bevel) pans that complement this style of decorating are also seen on ebay from time to time and can end up in $$$ price range.
Some of the older Wilton decorating books are also hotly traded items on ebay and other book sellers.
Who knew!
Hi. I posted information on the Lambeth book including inside book pages. I am selling them. Someone asked about them, also; so I posted pictures and info. Please go to,"Discount Decorating Supplies" which is FB group. I just found this one on Ebay.
