Can anyone help me on how to make sugar bottles? My son is turning 30 in Feb. and I want to make him a cake in the shape of a bucket with the bottles on the inside.

Please help.

Hi there I recently made one of these...and it really wasn't as difficult as I thought. I know there is a thread on here about it, and also directions on how to best do it, as well as the recipe for the sugar/kayro mixture. I will give you some pointers of what I did in hopes it helps you. First off the bottles are time consuming...so don't wait till the last minute to do them. I used Amazing Putty which I got at Michaels (cost $20.00) I used this to make the mold of the bottle...worked great bad part is that its a little $$. The first 2 I made I actually threw away...but once I got it not too bad. I would say that they take about 2 hours per bottle. Get a pyrex glass measuring cup I think mine is a 4 cup one works great. I actually used real lids and labels, since I don't have an edible printer....for the ice I made the sugar mixture, then poured it on to a silpat mat, put it in the fridge, once cooled smashed with a hammer..worked great. I know the directions that I got off of here said to pour it onto foil, but that was a mess and I cut myself like crazy on it, and it stuck to the foil..so that is when I came up with the silpat, and nothing stuck to it. I covered the cake in fondant, and then airbrushed with silver so it really looked like a bucket. I then put it in the fridge to cool, and set up before putting the bottles and ice on it. Everyone that sees the picture swears that they are real bottles. I will try to attach the picture,..if not email me at [email protected] and I will send it through an email. Like I said seems like a lot of work which it is, but once you get it down not too bad just time consuming. Good luck...I am sure it will be great! AMY ok won't let me put pic on here says it is too big, so email me if you want me to send it to you...just do a search for sugar beer bottles
