dkelly - here is the link to the Viking cooking school. I don't know exactly where in the NE you are, but in the pull down menu of locations I saw one in NY, NJ, and PA. I've taken quite a few wine fueled classes there! icon_smile.gif Never taken thier cake classes though!

Gotta love the thread within a thread! The original one has become so ridiculous, but it's keeping me entertained!

I've had a few people e-mail me off forums asking the same question so I'm going to just post here for all of them to read and for anyone else who wondered but didn't ask.

The question
What would you have done if it was you class and it was your student?

My answer

I'm sorry ____ but our policy states that I can not have you here with your daughter. Unfortunately we are tight on time now I am going to make the exception that Lesson 1 be mandatory to attend the rest of the lessons:

Here are the options

a) You can come to the next C3, L1 that I am teaching.

b) If management will allow me to schedule an opportunity to do a make up class for you we can do that.

I will let my manager know your extenuating circumstances tonight and as to why you were not here for the class and we'll get it worked out.

Since we learn to make the fondant rose centers that night I'd just make 3 of them for her and keep them. Then the next week I'd bring them for her and do a review on how to make them and have her do a few more on her own.

If she would have pressed it I would have done my back up alternative, divert to the manager on duty and let them make the call of the student staying with a child or not. If the manager said she could stay then I get the MOD's written ok on the tracking form that they would be signingfor the night. If the MOD said "sorry" I'd note that as well on the tracking form.

As much as I don't care if the child is there or not it's already been made clear to me by breaking the rules it's a write up and after enough write up's I'll be fired.

I know they mean business because the WMI I replaced was fired on the spot after many talking too's, write up's etc.

I need my job and I can't risk breaking the policy no matter how much I might not like it or might not agree with it. I think that is something many of us here can relate to.

That's a lttle dramatic...and untrue.

Definition of hate speech as I understand it: Bigoted speech attacking or disparaging a social or ethnic group or a member of such a group.

Children are a social group. Ageism is sometimes used to define discrimination against any certain age group; however, most often, it is just used as a definition of discrimination against the elderly. I believe adultism is the more proper term for discrimination of children.
Saying you "Loathe" a group based on age is hate speech. Just replace "children" with "elderly" in many of the posts and you'll see what I mean.

This is always the number one argument used by folks who think kid-haters should be shot.

As you can see, it doesn't exactly hold water:

Yes, I used to be a kid, but why then am I required to love children.

I used to be a teenager. Does that mean I'm supposed to like all teens.

I have lived in both Michigan and Virginia. I certainly don't love all Michiganders or Virginians.

I live in a European country. Am I now required to like all other Europeans. Or better yet, all ex-pats living overseas?

I am a Jew. Is it also a requirement to like all other Jews?

Lots of normal, well-adjusted people dislike kids. Lots of normal, well-adjusted people who had a normal, happy childhood dislike kids.

Mission accomplished. Vent was heard.

Evidently others also felt the need to vent. No one is asking anyone else to agree with them....just venting.

I always wonder what those fancy flavors of popcorn are like and more importantly, how they are made. Seems like they would go soft quickly... I must take the time to experiment soon!

What cakes do ya'll have for this weekend? I picked up two orders with the same color scheme. That doesn't happen to me very often!
