I think people actually bake in ceramic flower pots. I haven't done it, but I've heard of people who do. I'm always afraid of possible lead content in things like that, but if you could find one that is labeled as lead free, and then line it with parchment, jic.

Hi, I have never made a flower pot cake but it is on my list of cakes to make. I'm going to use the jumbo cupcake pan to make my flower pot. I think that would make good flower pot. Then I'm going to set it on top of another cake. But I'm just making a small flower pot. icon_smile.gif Anyway that's just my 2 cents...

Anyone else???

I love the idea of using a jumbo cupcake pan....maybe the bottom of the jumbo cupcake with a 6 or 8" layer on top?

Ok, I made a mistake..lol It's king size cupcake pan. It makes 6 cup cakes that are twice the size of a regular cup cake, but it's taller not fatter. So it will make a small flower pot, well actually 6 flower pots...lol that's what I'm going to use...

I made one for my daughter's birthday last year. I used the pampered chef 8 c batter bowl. I had just received it and was anxious to use it. I had originally planned to use the wonder mold. I think that would be fine if you have it. I think if you are going to use a real flower pot, you have to prepare it somehow first. Sorry that I can't remember, it was a few years ago.

Hi everyone, I made the retirement cake that I wanted to make flower pots for. The flower pots were kinda tricky at first. But I managed and got them done. I had so much fun making this cake. I used the largest oval pan and it's 2 layers, serves about 70.

flower pots, roses, butterfly & shovel are all made out of gumpaste. the fence is fondant. I think I could have done a better job on the fence. icon_sad.gif the dirt is crushed oreo cookies...mmm the icing is buttercream.

I do have a question though..my icing is starting to crack. How can you keep it from doing that??????

I have heard from post in here that you can add just few drops of vinegar to your bc frosting (suppose to not change the flavor one bit) to prevent cracking. I have not tried the vinegar yet, but if you use a very sturdy board under your cakes this will prevent cracking. icon_smile.gif HTH

Hello! Here is what i did for mine. I would have carve the cake a little more at the base. This was my first fondant 3D cake... so not as good as I wanted. After I covered the cake in fondant I added an additional strip around the top for the lip.

Cake Dimensions 2- 6in rounds 1- 7in round Covered in fondant. Lady bug, frog, worm, snail, garden gloves and shovel all made from fondant. Flowers made from gumpaste and put on floral wire and wrapped with floral tape. leaves made from fondant. Dirt is ground oreo. Brick base is fondant, then while the fondant was soft, I made grout groves, then filled it in with royal icing and let dry for several days.Cake Dimensions 2- 6in rounds 1- 7in round Covered in fondant. I just thought I'd add that there is a tutorial in the articles section which shows you step by step how to carve a flower pot. Here's the link if anyone's interested in it still:
