I figured it costs me approximately 30 cents each to make chocolate covered DoubleStuffs. The molds make them pretty quick and easy to make. What you need to do is figure out exactly what your expenses are, and then decide how much of a profit margin will make you happy. I've seen where people charge as much as $1 per Oreo, and as little as 50 cents per Oreo. What will the market bear in your area?

Are these bars coating chocolate or regular chocolate -- would I have to temper them?

How many Spinning Leaf molds do you need to buy to get one free?

The Ghirardelli bars are dipping chocolate, so you don't have to worry about tempering. I think any order from SpinningLeaf will get you a free mold...at least, that was the case in the past. If there is a particular mold you'd like to have as your freebie, ask nicely in the "comments" box and the chances are good that you'll get the one you want.

I needed to figure in the packaging also for my pricing, but I get $1.75 for one cookie in a little pyramid box, $5 for three in a box, $9.75 for 6 in a box and $19 for a dozen in a box.

Leah's!! I've missed you on Friday nights!!!

I think costs are lower in my area b/c I make a hefty profit with $1 each or $9/dozen for plain ones. (Especially with the sale price for the Ghiradelli Bars!) I've only made the "painted" ones for practice and am still not good at it--they are time consuming! icon_sad.gif

My designs on top are still always smeared when dry. No matter what I do with them. I put them in the frig until they were nice and hard. Before I added the chocolate. Should I freeze after I put the colored designs in to stop that?

I need to make 50 choc. covered oreos with the little feet design for a baby shower, what would be best, to place all of them in one big clear box or separate?

To make the Oreos (frankly I use store-brands) with a colored design, put the colored choc into the design. Don't fill the design completely. Freeze. Put the main color choc in. tap, tap, tap, tap. Lay in cookie. Put in more choc. tap, tap, tap.

Hold the mold up and look under and at the sides to make sure everything's covered.

freeze for 4-5 minutes. Pop out.

I guess it depends on if they are favors or will be served at the shower. If served, I would put them on a tray wrapped in celphane and a ribbon. If favors, it's better to do them seperate-maybe in small, clear treat bags?

Thank you Imacakes, I think I saw some small treat bags at Michaels. I will use those. Thanks again

Which store brand do you use? I tried a local brand and they were a hair too big for the mold.

Thanks Leahs
I figured maybe I should freeze the colored design. Got any idea how long?

Thanks, Gemini. I'll look for that chocolate -- I just love their candy.

Twooten, try here. I've never ordered from them, but a lot of ladies here have and said nice things about them. I think they do wholesale.

I think CK does wholesale, too.

bought these for my culinary class at school- i bought 6 molds of each design i purchased- ribbon, heart, paw print, flower and they threw in the baby foot mold....they are great- buy multiples to make your cookie molding faster- my vote is for the mint oreos- don't use the fake oreos.

to fill the designs , i put my chocolate in a decorating bag or bottle with a small round tip, no smears....and like leah said tap tap tap. i do have two of the wilton chocolate pots to keep the chocolate melted while waiting for the cookies to chill. the kids and i did the ribbon ones to raise money for a ill staff member... we pkg i cookie in a small truffle box, attached a note and asked people to return the empty box with a donation of change or bills, we made about 120 cookies and raised almost 400 dollars in donations, and could have sold more if i had had them..go with spinningleaf.

I'm looking at the Spinning Leaf website. For just a regular Oreo, should I order the "Standard Oreo Cookie Mold" or the "Standard Oreo Cakesters Mold"? icon_razz.gif

Oreo Cakesters are a totally different animal then the DoubleStuffs! I love them, but they quite pricey. If you want a soft cookie for the center, you'd like the Cakesters, though.

I have to say that I like the molds from Spinning Leaf. I like the plain one- I've attached my own chocolates on top. For the superbowl I made little footballs and attached to oreos dipped in yellow (Steelers) then on the ones dipped in chocolate, I cut out an emblem from fondant again for the Steelers. I have the heart mold also but I have a mini heart mold that looks really nice ontop. Going to buy more of the plain molds- more flexibility in decorating.

I can't wait! I ordered some of these molds Thurs, I've already bought double-stuff oreos and mint oreos in anticipation! I ordered the Baby Feet b/c I have several baby-showers I'm helping throw early this year and the stars b/c I thought they'd be pretty versatile.

I started making candy, so I have all the bottles etc. Just waiting (anxiously) on the molds, if they can make it through the snow!!! icon_lol.gif

I have the Spinning Leaf molds and I also ordered molds from Sugarcraft. They are not as thick as the Spinning Leaf but they worked fine. They are less expensive and they only have 4 molds. I use the off brand cookies unless oreos are on sale. I don't sell them, but give them away to teachers and friends. I just ordered the double heart mold and it looks really nice. I will post pictures after I use them. My Sam's didn't have the Ghiradelli candy this year and I had to order it from the company. Cost more but I love making candy with their brand. My Sam's only had the coating chocolate in the trays this year. I was very disappointed at Christmas. I just ordered more Ghiradelli for my Valentine candy and Easter candy coming up.
Funny it will let me say Spinning Leaf but not the company that starts with sugar and ends with carft. lol icon_razz.gif

I was wondering if the chocolate you put on top was too warm when you added it to the already molded chocolate design? I had that happen to me after I took the mold out of the freezer and added the chocolate to the design on top. My chocolate was too warm and sort of melted the already molded piece and it spread a little giving it a smeared look.

I went to a candy making class this past fall and the instructor said not to put a mold in the freezer between colors or else they won't fully adhere to the next layer. What she told us, and what I've done successfully, is to just let the colored chocolate set up on the counter and then put the chocolate or next layer over them.

It stays nice and cold in Ohio, so I haven't had a problem this way. During the summer I may have to make sure the a.c. is on or keep a small fan next to my molds.

Hope this helps!

Thanks - good to know about the freezer. I do let it sit up on the counter. But how how should it have to set up? See in eldag0615's picture above, the butterfly? How it spread? Thats what all mine do.
