Hi! I have some old fondant I had left over from a wedding cake I did and its hard and dried out. Is there any way to salvage it? I'm not using it for anything but practice - nobody is going to eat it. I'd love any suggestions.
Thanks
Found this on Baking911:
Glycerin / Glycerine: A colorless, odorless, syrupy liquid made from fats and oils and used to retain moisture and add sweetness to foods. It also helps to prevent sugar crystallization in foods like candy. Stir into icing to restore consistency or use to soften fondant or royal icing.
Dry microwaving it for less than 10 seconds and see if you can knead it back into softness. (Watch the centre of the ball though...it can get really hot!)
Microwave..duh..I can't believe that thought never even crossed my mind. Sometimes I think having children turns your brain to mush. Anyway the glycerin is a good idea but honestly, I'm too lazy to go to the store.. lol.
Thanks guys!
Toss it...rolled fondant can never be "salvaged" once it had started to dry.
"Glycerine......to soften fondant or royal icing." It is added when making the recipe not after the rolled fondant is already made.
...when I look lessons from toba garrett, she said that she works in glycerine to soften it again!
Just wanted to let you know that microwaving the fondant worked...it was just over a year old and I didn't even know I had it. I put it in the microwave for 15 seconds and rolled it out. Perfect! Thank you for the suggestions guys!

I agree. Plus if it's old you're probably sacrificing quality!
Oh I wouldn't suggest this for fondant that was going to be eaten. I was just using it to practice my bows with. Otherwise I agree...throwing it out would be best.
