I always have a hard time getting my stacked cakes to be even, my layers tend tom be lopsided and its not the cakes themselves its the way I stack themand the support I am using for dowls which are straws, I was wanting to know how other people stack their cakes evenly?

I use the wilton plastic hollow dowels and don't have a problem. Maybe someone else can give you some better advice....good luck!

Once, when I put my dowels in the cake, I questioned myself on how level they actually were. So I placed a plastic plate on top of the dowels and put a level on the plate. It was ok-fine, just looked off.

So after you put the straws in, you might place a plate (or a cardboard round) on top and check it with a level.

Be sure you are cutting the dowels all to the same length. Insert one, measure length, then cut all of them that length. Dont' insert all and measure them separately. If you have a high/low point(s) in your cake, they will never come out level.

I use wilton dowel and plate sets....I have a small hand saw (for cakes only) that I use to cut the dowels to the desired length, attach to plate, check level and then insert into the cake.

I also have a small level with me when I set up the cakes, checking the table and the tiers as they go up.
