The cricut markers can be rinsed out thoroughly and then replaced with airbrush color. Also, I've tried fondant with Tylose and that worked very good. I ran into those same problems someone mentioned, having a hard time cutting the cake because of the gumpaste. But with the tylose added to the gumpaste, its much easier to cut.

There is a DVD made by Linda Mcclure from Louisiana that is awesome. She has figured this whole thing out. Has a recipe for gumpaste that works in the Cricut and shows you how to do amazing things with the Cricut. We decorated a five tier pillow cake using some beautiful cutouts we made using our Cricut. You can email her at [email protected] ( she has a website , but I don't have the link right now)

TwoSweetSisters, I think this might be the link www.creativedesighscakes.com and I am also from Louisiana but I am just starting out with cakes, I am now retired and always wanted to do cakes and I am loving it. Your cakes are beautiful, do you have a pic of the LSU helmet for the groom that didn't want to cut it. I went to your web site and couldn't find it, would love to see it.
Thanks Deborah

unfortunately we forgot our camera! Stupid or what?! We are however waiting for a picture from the photographer. We actually did 2 helmet for this groom. A Saints one and an LSU one and he froze them both in his grandma's deep freezer and will be taking each one to the first games. Big football fan! Anyway, I can send you a pic as soon as we get them. They were both life size. My son played football for LSU so I had something to go off of.

Deborah, are you a member of ICES?

Please don't forget, I really would love to see the pics, thank ya'll
no I am not a member of ICES I don't know anything about it. I am really a newbie, I live between Lake Charles and Alex. Right in the middle and have to travel for anything I need or order off the web. Everything I have learned is from CC members such as xstitcher, tonedna, doug, and TexasRose and plenty others. I wish I could take a class but the ones closest is over 50 miles one way and they are filled up thru Jan. I have a few DVD's and I am learning slowly but surly. Sorry about the yak yak yak but I get excited about cake talk. LOL
Thanks Deborah

I just ordered my Cricut & I'm so excited. I can't wait until it gets here. If you on a budget you can order the Expression directly from Cricut on a 7 month flexpay at $57 a month. That's not too bad if you can't swing the full price up front like me. HSN has several models on flex pay as well, for those looking. I hope to figure out how to use it & make beautiful cakes & post pics. Wish me luck. icon_smile.gif

Not sure I am following you here....what are you saying?

That you don't think the cricut will work with gumpaste and fondant? It most certainly does.

Or are you saying it costs too much? $300 or so is not much for a machine that can do what this thing does.

Don't knock it until you try it! You might get hooked!

I actually read on another site last night that you can use the cricut for fondant and gumpaste and it is wonderful, there is actually a website to a cake decorator who uses the cricut very often. I'll see if I can go back and get the website for you, I cannot remember it right now. Cannot wait till Christmas so I can get one myself.

I know this is so late to be posting this but TO SPARKLEPOP and anybody else who thought about this, with the program Sure Cuts A Lot you can grab an image of the internet like a scroll and cut it on the Cricut

I just happened to run across this youtube video today and then got on their site. I think this will end up being less expensive than the frosting sheets and it looks so versatile. i am definitely going to try this with my cricut.

the detail on this is amazing.

News for anyone who can possibly make it to Austin the weekend of February 27-28 ... Sweet Southern Ladies (Martha and Becky ) will be offering two 5-hour classes showing how to use the Cricut to do a wedding cake (Saturday) or groom's cake (Sunday). I know the classes will be amazing and the show is unbelievable --

There will be fantastic classes the week before (Mike McCarey) and the week after (Nicholas Lodge, Geraldine Randlesome, Kathy Scott). There are also a LOT of mini-classes during the weekend including Lauren Kitchens teaching how to 'muppetize" anyone even yourself!

Check out the website and we'll see you in Austin!!

I didn't find this thread before I posted this http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-664659-.html
I found this chart comparing several machines. http://www.paperthreads.com/bo.....12008.html
I find the ones that you don't need to buy the discs for interesting.

For those of you mentioning using the Cricut paper cutter for cakes, in April 2010, Cricut is releasing a food safe "cake maker." It is specifically for use with gumpaste and fondant. The cartridges for the regular cricut are interchangeable. The mat is non-adhesive and is washable. There is a foodsafe cover for the buttons and a cover for the cartridge area when no cartridge is in the machine. It also has that kitchen-aide mixer look to it so you might be able to find one to match your kitchen aide! Thanks to my friends who were at a scrapbooking expo yesterday and told me I need to get one of these! Saving money for April!!
