I am wanting to purchase a pasta machine to work with my fondant and also to make fresh pasta. Do any of you have one and if so, which brand would you or would you not recommend?
I bought a cheap Atlas pasta machine on Amazon for about 15 bucks, which gets tons of use as I take to all of my Fondant & Gumpaste classes as well as Course III, Lesson 2 when we make fondant roses. About 75% of my students end up buying one as well. I don't really like the ones they sell in the clay section at Michael's and Hobby Lobby because the thinnest setting doesn't get the gumpaste/fondant thin enough.
At home I use a KitchenAid pasta roller attachment, which I picked up for about 50 bucks. If you aren't going to be traveling with yours, I wholeheartedly recommend that KitchenAid attachment. It totally rocks.
sparklepopz - when you use the Kitchen Aide one, are you able to do different thicknesses? My cousin has a manual one and he said he liked it better than the electric ones because you could back it up if needed.
Ah, true...you can't reverse the KA attachment, but it does have 7 different thickness settings. The thinnest setting is super thin.
Another benefit of the KA attachment is that you have both hands free to handle your fondant/GP...one hand to feed it in and one hand to catch it, plus the fondant/GP hangs nice and straight.
I bought my son the Atlas original 150 for Christmas. He has made three batches of pasta already, and loves it. It has a hand crank, and works like a charm. I got it on Amazon for $69 on sale.
Go on Amazon and read the reviews before you buy one.

i bought my hand crank Atlas at an auction about 8 years ago for $15, and i love it!. i use it occasionally for pasta, but it gets most of its use from fondant and gumpaste.
I got a no name brand pasta machine for christmas and I'm actually having a bit of trouble with it. Even though I'm dusting it first it still like to hold on the the fondant/gumpaste, even on the thickest setting it still comes out uneven. The dial for the thickness is difficult to move and the hand crank keeps falling out when i'm in mid crank, so definitely read the reviews before you buy one. I was so excited when I got mine, but now it looks like i'm going to have to buy another!
