How many of you actually eat cake? - Page 2

When I was young I had a major sweet tooth, but now find that anything bigger than the "Wilton-sized" slice is too much. I made a two-tier practice cake this weekend (10" and 6") and brought it in to work; after nibbling at the scraps this weekend, I'd had my fill and didn't want any when it was time to eat an actual piece. As for the frosting, if I don't take that first taste, I'm fine - but the more I taste, the more I'm inclined to eat. Hopefully I'll get past that too -- it sure makes the waistband tight, in a hurry! icon_cry.gif

That's so funny you guys. Why does everyone assume that the cake maker should cut the cake? I hate doing it!!! It's not beause I don't want to destroy it... I'm just not one of those people who do it well, you know nice perfect pieces. I'd much rather have someone else do it. I love watching people slice into one of my cakes! People say "oh, I bet you hate to see that cut" But it's just the opposite. I always find myself saying "When are they going to cut the cake?"

As for eating cake, I love it!!! Way too much. This was my first year doing lots of cakes and I gained 10 pounds! Well, I just finished loosing the ten, and now I'm pregnant! I'm trying to cut back cake tasting and frosting eating! LOL

I love cake! My husband is sick of it. I have to beg him just to try a tiny, tiny little taste of icing just to get his opinion on it. I have a hard time not eating it when it is just sitting there on the counter waiting for me when I get home from work. I have put on 12 pounds since I started baking and decorating in March! I have to stop this madness...I just can't help taste-testing my icings and cakes!!

I have never been a big cake eater to begin with. But since I am new to this cake decorating, I want to try different recipes so of course I have to taste them. And I tried the cake balls, big mistake, I love those! My husband works at a prison so I do a practice cake, cut a piece to taste, then send it to work with him. His co-workers are now asking when I am going to make another cake. icon_smile.gif
When I was taking the Wilton courses I gave the neighbors lots of cake. Everyone around here is sick of cake.

My husband is definitely NOT sick of cake. A couple of our friends came over this weekend for a tasting for their wedding cake and he thought he should be included in the tasting! It was funny. He wants me to do another tasting for them, only because he'll get more cake!
I always like to taste whatever I'm making. I have gotten much better about tasting too much, but I do love sweets. And, unfortunately, it shows.

how ironic. i never gained an ounce working in bakeries (it's very physically demanding work) all the while nibbling on broken almond dacqoise with caramel, broken cheesecakes, and all sorts of fattening things...on the other hand, 5+ years of office work sitting on my ever-expanding butt packed on 25 pounds ouch.gif which i am slowly trying to whittle off...maybe i should go back to baking!

i read somewhere that the trick is to avoid the icing, and just eat the cake...kind of like having just the burger without the fries.

I really SHOUDN'T eat cake, but I do! Love it! I don't make them too often since my DH absolutely hates sweets (I know, definitely not a good thing).

Aunt-Judy, so true. I'm neurotic when it comes to cake cutting. Gotta have that pitcher of hot water and a cloth to wipe the blade for each slice! I don't like seeing crumbs over the top of my cake! icon_smile.gif

This reminded me of what my Wilton instructor told us when we first started the Course 1 class. She told us that we would get sick of cake and icing by the time we finished all 3 courses.

Well, that didn't happen to me. I LOVE cake and especially sweet frosting. Even after a week where I had made 3 cakes, I still loved eating the cake and frosting. I guess I'm a diehard when it comes to this stuff. Luckily I'm doing karate and weight training, so this lets me eat cake without gaining weight.

Interestingly enough...I LOVE cake, but will not eat any cake or pie that I have made. People think I'm so strange, but after baking it and decorating it, I just can't bring myself to eat it...I just don't want to look at it anymore! I will eat other peoples desserts, though...without a problem!

Nothing calls my name more than a good cake sitting in my refridgerator or on my counter. So, I try to keep the ones that stay here to a minimum. Leftover icing also has the occasion to call my name. Again, I try to minimize that. Luckily, I can't stand cheesecake or carrot cake so when I make those, I'm fine. I've had two kids in the last 3-1/2 years and I still need to lose 20 pounds, so I'm desperately trying to do that. At 82 years old, my mom is on the verge of being diabetic. So, if I ever find out I'm diabetic, it will really bum me out.
I wish you all the best of cake!

People do that to me, too! I don't want to be responsible for cutting it! I already made it, now they want me to cut it too?

OMG.. I just realized that happens to me too..
I'm thinking well dang, it took me how long to make that cake????? And you want ME to destroy it???? icon_surprised.gif
NO I WON'T DO IT!!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I AGREE WITH THE THREE OF YOU. EVEN IF I DIDN'T MAKE THE CAKE I STILL HAVE TO CUT IT. WHAT IS WITH THAT?

I love my own cake! I never make it if I don't have a reason though, so I haven't gained any weight from making cakes. I never eat bakery cakes, if I am at a function and there one from a specialty bakery or someone else has made it I will try it, to test the competition, lol, but to me a cheap bakery cake is a waste of calories, lol.

I agree, I love quality desserts. I am pretty good at resisting cheap bakery cakes and desserts, though. No need to waste calories!
