I am making a cake similiar to this
onehttp://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1172833
and was wondering if anyone out there could give me some input? How do you attached the carrot nose and mittens? Should I use BC or RI to attach things to the snowman? I am using RI holly but most of the rest will be MMF. I will PM the artist but I'm afraid they won't get back in time for the big day. Thanks CC Members and Happy Holidays!

Chippi

PS.......I want to thank everyone and especially CC for the wonderful website that has really got me cake decorating and loving it! God Bless everyone!

I've used BC to attach things to my MMF before and it worked fine. It all really depends on the weight of the item. As far as the carrot nose, it would depend on the weight of it. I'd think you'd have to use a dowel and push it into the cake a good ways to hold it on, otherwise, it would droop. HTH

I was able to reach the gal, Wendy, who made the snowman cake by phone, and ntertayneme was right about the dowel, but Wendy used one with a point, to slide into the head neater. She made a glue of tylose and water to attach the carrot to the head, and she said that she attached the mittens with a bit of icing & tylose glue.

The pointy dowel she specified was like one that could be used on a corn on the cob.

HTH

When I did my Turkey cake for Thanksgiving (picture in gallery) I used water to attach MMF to MMF. For the Nose I would use a dowel. The mittens you can use either BC or RI. HTH

Chippi- can't wait to see a pic of this cake.

Wendy- I just wanted to tell you how awesome your work is. I have several of your cakes in my favorites, but I'm too afraid to try them yet. I hope I am as good as you one day! Oh, and don't worry about your english... we all understood it just fine. icon_smile.gif I got the chance to go to Holland with my husband, and it's beautiful! I would love to live there one day!

Hi Wendy!

You are awesome! Don't you worry about your english I can read it just fine! Your snowman cake is absolutely adorable and I hope you do not mind me using it as an example of what I need to do. I am pretty new at cake decorating with fondant and this is actually my first completely fondant covered cake. I probably should'nt have chosen 3 cakes to be my first. I did one christmas cake with half fondant on top it was pretty easy. I already got my cakes iced and covered and they look pretty good, no major flaws. (crossing my fingers) I will definitely post it on here for you to see. You will be my best critique and would be honored. Thank you all for all the help and advice and have a Very Merry Christmas! icon_smile.gif
