I like this thread, too.
An old friend of mine's son couldn't say Mandy (my name) so he called me what sounded like Mndy, my sister heard it and loved it and she's called me Mndy ever since. The 2/04 is my daughter's birthday.
Ok, I thought up mine because I was tired of family/friends telling me they knew someone back in the day who 'used to be into all that stuff'. From their description these were people who did it for a little while but gave it up because it became boring. lol-I'm SERIOUS about caking
The cool thing was that after they would tell me this I would show them my pics and they'd be like, 'Oh, well they didn't do what you do!!!' *allow me a smug smile here*
When I was little, my dad would call me Lisa Mae. I can't tell you how much I hated it. I would actually cry. Well, the more I voiced my displeasure, the more he called me Lisa Mae.
I can relate. My dad had 4 girls before he had a boy. He REALLY wanted a boy! So he never called us "Debi, Jean, Sandy and Vicky". Oh no! It couldn't be that easy! To him, our names were "Clyde, Charlie, Pete and Sam". (And since my name was Debi Lynn, my "dad-name" became "Clyde Leonard"! Lucky me, I was blessed with TWO boy-names! ) In the house, in the car, in public, he didn't care. The more we complained, the funnier he thought it was.
Sweetcakes was the name I had picked out for my "shop" I wanted to open, someday.... and I retired from my school district job with 23 years behind me. So...when my name Sweetcakes was "taken" I put the 23 behind it. Whoo clever, I know....
Interesting thread. Mine is not very creative, but I chose it because it's my hobby and more often than not, my passion.
Michele
My husband is a Scottish Earl and that makes me a Countess. When we are out of this beautiful country (USA) we are called Lord and Lady Ellam. I guess I could have gone with my other nickname--ketchup. My oldest nephew couldn't say Kathy all that well and it sounded like catsup. My whole family calls me that and it is especially endearing when you hear in a crowded mall "Hi my Ketchup".
Mine is easy. I LOVE the way diamonds look on black velvet. 13 is my favorite number....I also like diamonds on white, red, and purple velvet.
My DH calls my blondie When we were looking for a website for me blondiez was open so we were really excited! Not too complicated.
What my name Electric Cake means:
I have been an electrician for over 20 years and I love to bake. Hence Electric Cake. I hope to open my own shop on day. I will use electric in the name somehow. The name will set me apart because there are so few women in the electrical industry and even less working out in the field.
What an interesting thread!!! Mine is a nickname, and I was shocked when I joined CC this summer and that name was available! Now, a funny name is what I call my cookie making (non-business) It's Shiney Zebra. Nickname obviously, and I LOVE zebras, always have since I was a kid. Cookies don't enter your mind when you hear the name Shiney Zebra, huh?
This is fun! I chose mine to match my personality - sweet with a little bit of bite (or so my husband tells me).
My online name evolved much like mndy. My godson could not correctly pronouce my name when he was a tot. -na-rie was his version of Anna Marie. Most people call me Anna, but his mother always insisted that her children use my full name as a matter of respect.
Summer = My Name
Noelle = I was born on Christmas morning. A nickname for me in high school.
I have no idea why my parents would name me Summer if I was born on Christmas, but it's a funny story!
Mine is kind of boring too. I am a HUGE fan of Kimora Lee Simmons! She has a brand of clothes called Fabulosity and fabulous is one of my favorite words...so it works. I so wanted to work that into a business name one day, but would not like to be sued for taking her name.
I will just settle for making pretty cakes while she makes pretty clothes.
My name came from my Poker playing name Chippi. I don't play poker much anymore just MAKE CAKES CAUSE I'M ADDICTED! Everyone started calling me Chippi. Now it is on the front of my car too along with Tigger!!!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
Chippi
Way back when I first got my email address, I was 14, and was the big sister of 3 kids... but now I am the big sister of 7 kids. Everyone I know tells me I need to change my screenname, but that's too much hassle.
indydebi ~ I loved your story! My dad gave us all funny nicknames too
summernoelle ~ I ADORE your name! It's beautiful.
When I was young I read a book by V.C Andrews called Heaven. It was about a little girl named Heaven Leigh but her brother called her Heavenly. So when I met Tony Lee and we had a daughter her name became Heaven Lee.
My maiden name is Wing and I was called Wing-Ding in high school. They thought that they were making fun of me, until they realized I was better with words than they were and I could easily make fun of their names as well, or have a snappy comeback.
Pianocat=my nickname (for Cathy) was always Cat, and I am a pianist for our church-that is my hobby-so pianocat. Not very creative I know but another name I wanted was taken.
Cathy
My friend thought it was funny that my last name was Makar and I was a cake maker. He put the two together and it's what he calls me now. He's much more entertained by this than I am, but I needed a username.
My name is Alison, and though I prefer to be called that, a lot of people call me Ali. my husbands name is Matt and I got him ali got matt
mine is because I bake things from sugar. Also one of my favorite shows from a long time ago.... designing women... but I ended mine with a Z because my mother gave me the middle name Suzzanne (double Z's)... and my grandmother called me Too-Zee growing up... so hence SugarBakerz!!! I used to go by Southern Suzie's Sweets when DD was little but when DS came along and I got licensed.. I changed to SugarBakerz....
alvarezmom--alvarez is my last name and I'm a mom. Pretty easy, huh? I should have come up with something more catchy.
Mine is the term for a karate student. I'm an avid martial artist....my OTHER passion!
I'm a huge Tori Amos fan, and years ago when I was trying to come up with an e-mail address all the obvious references were already taken. So I combined words from 2 song titles: Toodles Mr. Jim (because I think the word toodles is totally cool), and Hey Jupiter (because it's a great song and named after a planet, which is also cool). So toodlesjupiter it is, and I've kept it ever since.
I started pole dancing for exercise (I've lost 51 lb. So far!) and to build up my core muscles since I have a bad back. I had just started when I created this moniker, and the first thing I could think of was a polecat, but I'm a gal, so I chose polekitten.
I've heard it sounds a bit more suggestive than I had intended. Heh.
jamm - first initial of my husband, myself, and two daughters
jenks - short version of our last name (Jenkins)
DH came up with this a few years ago and I use it on everything online.
